93' Vr6 fuel pump circuit/relay HELP !

Recommended Posts

I need some electrical advice..

There's voltage at the fuse, voltage at the relay, but pump will not energize. Pulled relay and inserted jumper wire between terminal slots, fuel pump runs. I've replaced the fuel relay, same scenario, no power back at fuel pump connection.

I'm hoping someone has some advice where to go next with this.

The fuse does not blow.

have you tried another fuel relay?, they're notoriously rubbish, mine went 3 times in a year.

Yes I've bench tested both relays that I have and they test good.

Does the Vr6 have a fuel pump cut out tied into it, say from the ABS ?

So if something on the ABS unit has failed or isn't functioning properly it interrupts the fuel pump circuit ?

Have you checked whether you have power at pin 86 (I think) of the relay? If you can bridge the main power pins and you say the relay works sounds like the relay switch power is at fault? should be able to multimeter pin 86 to ground and check for power.

The fault lies with spade 86. Does #86 wire tie directly to the ignition switch ? I have no schematics unfortunately.

There's a 5amp fuse in the engine bay, have you tried changing that.

Splinterz1 where is the 5 amp fuse location ?

Right so after looking at some wiring diagrams, I may have got the pin number wrong, I thought pin 86 should be the one that receives power, but i think it looks like 86 goes to ground (the one on the back of the cylinder head, so may be worth checking also) but 85 is the live relay signal wire and comes the the ECU.

Try checking the voltage of pin 85 and make sure you check the voltage whilst trying to turn the engine over, to guarantee the ECU would be powering the relay.

Apologies for getting this wrong first time round

Sorry in the delay but yes I did. I used a piece of wire to back plug into the relay and I think that scratched the insert for contact to be made and worked after that !
