NewbridgeJob 0 Posted November 23, 2016 Does anyone know what type of paint was applied to Corrado's at the factory? From the look I'd assume it was a 2k based paint but wanted to make sure. Am I right in thinking that most cars pre 1990 were 1k acrylic paints? I know you can test the panels with thinners first but thought I'd check here first
16vMatt 10 Posted November 25, 2016 The non metallic colours may well be a single stage 2k paint though I do doubt that they would be. But the metallic finishes will definitely be two stage base coat and clear due to the fact that you can't acquire a metallic finish single stage. NewbridgeJob 0 Posted November 25, 2016 I'm going to attemp to respray my car as the paint is shocking and wanted to do it in 2k. Obviously the 2k will react with 1k paint. I guess the only real way to find out is the rub some thinners on and see if the paint comes off. Didn't really want to have to do that but I might whip the door card off and do it on the inside or something.
SR_Neale 10 Posted November 26, 2016 It will be 2k. You can put 2k over cellulose paint without any reaction as long as its properly preped.
