Gearbox circlip thing...

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I made a big long post last night, and then as I hit submit the forum died - bugger - I copied the text of my post and saved it at home but, seeing as its quiet at work I might as well start again.

First question - if I have a quickshift fitted (its grown on me now btw) should the gearbox still have that circlip thing fitted, or does the quickshift for whatever reason overrride that part?

Secondly - its been mentioned that without the circlip, 2nd can be a particularly troublesome gear to engage. Well since having my quickshift adjusted by Stealth, it has improved a lot but I still seem to struggle with the following gear selection :

* 1st -> 2nd (occasionally)

* 3rd -> 2nd (quite frequently)

* 4th -> 3rd (reasonably frequently)

Odd things seem to affect it like camber of the road - there is one section of city road near where I live that you need to drop to 2nd, and it ALWAYS fails to engage there for some reason!

Now I haven't looked under the gearstick base to identify if the circlip is there, though i'm not entirely sure what i'm sposed to be looking for anyway. Can anyone supply me with a piccie, and how you are sposed to get the gear surround off so I can have a look?

(edit - ignore that - found a pic by searching!) :)

Cheers :)
