Ignition problem

Recommended Posts

When i turn the key to the IGN. position the fans comes on (so i preume all my ignition lives work) but i get no red lights on the clocks. Then when i turn the key to start the car there is nothing.

What do you think is wrong?

(sorry its a mk2 golf not a C)

I think the problem is that you've started far too many hreads on the subject.

try disconnecting the loom from the ignition switch and manually "hot wiring it" to see if the ignition switch hasn't gone.

For some bizarre reason mine packed in, just after I'd had the dash to bits to fit something. it took me f*cking days to find out that the ignition switch had died at the exact same time, making me thing that what I'd done had caused a fault of some sort.

what clocks are you using? the mk3 8v ones?

Where is the switch and what does it look like? Is it the black cap thing?

Yep, i also used a mk3 loom for them, i had to swap the postion of the +ve and add an earth to them but they work fine. I got the info from here - http://www.clubgtiworcs.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1915

the ignition switch is in the column, behind the ignition barrel. accessible from the back, underneath, with the column cowling removed.

I'm saying this because it seems like the first part of you ignition ir working, but not the rest. so that could be either down to the switch, the immobiliser, or your wiring.

you know you siad you taped the transdoner to the pickup ring? well un tape it, and try putting the transponder inside it, as it would be if it was in the key.

in fact, put the ring on your ignition barrel and ta ethe transponder to your key.

it took a couple or attempts on corey's before it'd work right.

On the VR mk2 i just taped it to the ring and it was fine. I'll give it a try though.

Someone on cgti tried starting there mk3 8v with the chip out of range and the car still fired up but died shortly after.

that could be down to your wiring.

 I feel insulted!!!!
