randal 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Eh up, Just a swift one. Having problems with my exhaust, the front pipe keeps pulling apart from the rest of the SS kit - it's driving me mental. Tried most things - i.e. tightening up the clamps to the point of "ouch that hurt my hand" - but still nothing. So I'm guessing as the engine is rocking on acceleration it's pulling the pipes apart. I've changed the front mount, fairly easy. But someone told me that to change the rear mount is a pig, something about having to take out the entire strut to get access?? Can anyone shed any light/give us a better way round? TIA randal
Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2004 all 3 engine mounts are pretty damned easy to replace on a 16V.... 8) about the same as a G60 in terms of difficulty and I've done all 3 on mine with no hassles.. 8) Undo the bolts on the mount you want to change, jack up the engine (with a piece of wood between the engine and the jack!) remove old mount (can be slightly tricky, but not too hard) replace and re-tighten... Job done... 8)
randal 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Good stuff, so there's no grief with the rear beam having to come out then? Looks like I just got myself a task for the weekend :)
Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2004 eh? the rear beam has nothing to do with the engine mounts... :| I think that someone's got you all confused about the rear exhaust section which goes over the rear axle beam... that's the bit that's a pig to do if you're fitting OE parts as you may have to drop the rear beam to get it over... The rear engine mount isn't that difficult to do, and at the VERY worst, you can always remove the 4x 17mm bolts from the back of the block which hold on the metalwork for the engine mount onto the engine to give yourself some extra room... 8)
randal 0 Posted July 13, 2004 Sorry mate, by rear beam read "the metal strut thingie at the back of the engine bay" - (I know enough to get me by, but not enough to remember the names of these thigies!) Doesn't sound like too much fuss though either way. I remember having a look under the car when the Miltek was getting fitted and thinking - "How the hell is he going to get that OE pipe out of there?" No sooner did I finish thinking, I heard the warming pop of Oxy-Aceteline. Ahhh, problem solved
Henny 0 Posted July 13, 2004 ah rear subframe.... Nope, you don't have to prat about with that to change the mount... 8)
