Help needed with front dash speaker installation

Recommended Posts

Hello all, had a go at fitting some upgraded speakers to replace the bodged mess that the car had when I bought it. I've gone for the Alpine set in the rear, which I wired in and they work fine. And then some more alpines in my audioscape pods but the front is what I'm having trouble with.

Basically the old OEM tweeters in the dash have 2 connections, and being a speaker noob I did some research and saw that they connect to the door speakers as well as the head unit. My question is with the new alpine dash speakers I have there is only 1 connection point, so how do I wire these up? should I just splice the door speaker wires together with the head unit ones or do I have to take another approach?

Hopefully that all makes sense. I'll add some pictures to the thread of the new and old speakers. Cheers Mick.

Just splice them in... I take it you have a full range speaker in the door?

The capacitor on the stock speaker removes low frequencies so you technically had a door speaker playing full range and the dash as a tweeter.

the only problem will possibly be depending on volume the dash speakers being smaller than the door ones and them both playing full range will distort before the door ones.

I was fortunate, my car came with Infinity componenets in the front, so the door has a mid driver and the dash has a tweeter all wired up through a cross-over. could be worth looking at something like that?

Maybe something like this..

Or if you're considering an aplifier maybe these... I believe the Kappas are better quality and you'll get more out of them if driven by an amp... my ICE days are long ago...

Thanks for the reply bud. I have the 6.5" alpine ones in the door cards.

And unfortunately I have zero idea on anything to do with speakers, amps, crossover or full range ect... :( I just thought it would be a simple case of plug and play with these upgraded ones as the RMS doesn't supersede my head unit. I'll have a crack at it and let you know how I get on. Thanks again for the info bud :)
