Blue_Joe 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Can anyone please offer some suggestions. My G60 is running a little poor! On start up the engine doesn't run well at all for the first minute or so. It seems to struggle initially - seeming to 'chug' a bit (sorry the best word I could use to describe it.) Once it's going it picks up but the idle is a little lumpy. Once driving it has quite a few flat spots and also is very thirsty. The car has always in the past been a great runner. Also I have recently fitted an electric oil pressure gauge and the T-Piece required for the sender unit. Ever since when I start the car the oile pressure light and buzzer come on for about 5 mins then doesn't come on again all day. The oile level is fine although it does seem to be burning a little oil. I replaced the oil pressure sensor plug thing but no joy. In the last few weeks to try to sort this I have replaced the Spark Plugs, Rotor Arm, Distributor Cap and Fuel Filter, also the oil filter was replaced in the last few months but hasn't affected it at all. Blue_Joe 0 Posted July 15, 2004 Oh yes - I also cleaned out the Throttle body with Carb Cleaner and also the sensor on the side of the big air pipe leading to the throttle body from the charger. - Sorry I'm not the most technically minded just do as suggested by others! clivecorrado 0 Posted July 15, 2004 For the past year I've had no end of running problems and have chucked money at my G60 like you wouldn't believe, then it finally packed up...It turned out that the Fuel Injection System Relay was breaking down - a couple of dabs of solder and it now runs like a dream!!! Now idea how much a new relay will cost, but I'm heading to VW tomorrow to pick up one so can let u know. If you've got a mate with a G60 it can't hurt to borrow his/her relay to give it a go??? Henny 0 Posted July 15, 2004 OK, idle problems on G60 which run but poorly tend to be from one of 4 common faults.. check these and see what happens. 1) Vacuum pipe between ECU and the top nipple on the back of the throttle body. This needs to be EXACTLY 100cm long and have a good fitting at either end to seal it properly... this will give all sorts of nasty running and idling problems if it's wrong, torn, leaky or just generally crap... 2) Blue temp sender in the water flange on the front of the hose. This tells the ECU what temp the coolant is at. If it's broken, then the car will either run on choke all the time, or will never run on choke.. either way, it'll result in naff idle and flat spots... 3) Dead lambda sensor... this lives at the start of the cat pipe, the wiring is on the left hand side rear engine mount as you look from the front of the car... when this dies, you're car will feel flat and DRINK fuel... idle will also become lumpy due to over-fuelling... 4) air leak... If you have a leak in one of your boost pipes, intercooler or vacuum hoses, the ECU won't be getting reasonable signals and the engine won't run properly... Blue_Joe 0 Posted July 18, 2004 Henny Vacuum pipe seems to be in good nick. Checked the Blue Temp sensor already and that is fine. The most likely fault from the description seems to be the Lambda sensor. Is there any way of checking that this is dead before shelling out hard earned wonga????? also cant seem to locate any air leaks so assume for now that there isn't.
