Vacuum hoses and radiator run on

Recommended Posts

Took the Corrado for an MOT after it had been standing for almost a year while I sorted the heater matrix and a few other bits. Needs new rear discs and the emissions are too high so not a bad result.

I've been having an issue where the radiator fan would come on whenever the ignition is turned off not matter the temperature of the engine or if the engine had even been on. While the fan was doing this I moved the airbox and it turned off. On further investigation I found a connector under the airbox that looks like it had broken off from somewhere and when it shorts the radiator run on comes on. Couldn't for the life of me work out where this connects to. Any ideas? Here's a picture:

While digging around in this area I also noticed a few hoses have been cut/worn through. I think they are vacuum hoses. From a search it could be where the carbon canister has been disconnected but I'm not even sure what that is. One thing I have noticed is that after revving the engine it takes ages to get back to idle - could this be linked? Any ideas what needs to be connected to what?

T shaped connector behind the airbox

Should these two be connected?

Thanks in advance!

On the 1.8 16v there is a fan run on sensor on the front offside of the cylinder head. Looks like a brass nut on a bracket with a brown wire. If this goes faulty the fan will run continuously. Disconnecting it should stop the fan.

2 It looks similar to this. On mine it was mounted on a metal bracket which in turn was bolted to the front offside corner bolt of the rocker cover.

Is this it? Seems far too easy...

I mounted it there. Seems to be working fine. Fan doesn’t come on every time I turn the ignition off now. Only when hot.

Fixed all the vacuum hoses and the car seems to be running a lot smoother now.

Rear discs and MOT in a couple of weeks and I’ll be back on the road (fingers crossed).

Thanks for the help all.
