Krusty 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Hi folks, My beloved G60's exhaust has started to snap, crackle and pop when coming off the power in second. I assume this is because some unused fuel is igniting on the hot tail pipe... It didn't use to do this, or at least not all the time :) So what could be up? Does it sounds like the AMD chip needs remapping or a tune is required (although isn't this effectively what a remap is?) or could something else be up? Or am I worrying needlessly? Cheers, Krusty
Henny 0 Posted August 2, 2004 if it has only just started to do this, and you've not changed anything which could cause it, then there are 3 likely reasons... 1) a slight leak in the exhaust system, normally close to the engine, can cause this 2) the blue temp sensor has failed and is causing your car to run rich 3) the lambda sensor has failed and is causing your car to run rich Hope this helps... 8)
Krusty 0 Posted August 2, 2004 Cheers Henny! How do I tell if one of the sensors if buggered then, or is this a job for a VW specialist? Are there any other symptoms of either failure? How much do the sensors set you back? Cheers again, Krusty
Henny 0 Posted August 2, 2004 1) you'll be able to hear the exhaust blowing slightly 2) with the car idling, disconnect the blue sensor, if nothing happens, it's dead and a new one will set you back about £8 from either Euro or GSF 3) disconnect the wiring plug at the back left of the engine for the lambda sensor and see if this makes any difference... if it doesn't then the odds are it's a dead Lambda... It could also be that your timing is out, but if you've not changed anything, this shouldn't have changed... 8)
