Fixed headgasket now it sucks

Recommended Posts

So I fixed the headgasket with a copper one and so I started the car, first attempt it didnt go, second attempt it did, but it was REALLY weak. the vacuum lines are ok I think. when I step on the gas there is little/no throttle response. I used to be able to tap the gas and it would jump 1000 rpms. now I tap it and it slowly goes up 500 rpms. it very faulty. when I refilled the radiator water remained on the radiator, since I had the engine running badly for 5 mins the water heated up, dont know if the water on the front decided to steam up or if it was the water in the system and I have a leak, there is a LOT of water on the front of the radiator right now, being that I cant drive it do my mechanic I dont know what to do next. was gonna do timing,

which engine?

Sounds very much like your cam timing is out by a tooth or two... check this out and if it's OK, then check the ignition timing (you should be able to get it roughly in the correct place by eye. At TDC on 1, the rotor arm (if it's a G60) should be pointing at the little groove in the side of the dizzy and that should be plug No.1 8)

Good luck! 8)

you know the thing is that I followed the bentley's instructions on all of this, You could be right about 1 tooth, but the thing is that the car was running ok for about 1 second during this process then it went back to running like junk.all of the lines line up and the dots on the cam are where ther are supposed to be

make sure you've got the vacuum hose from the throttle to the ECU on the correct nipple on the back of the T/B... if it's on the wrong one you'll confuse the hell outta the ECU... :|

It's not something really silly like you've got the plug leads (wires) on in the wrong order is it? I've done this myself and sworn loudly when I realised! ;)

yah I think it was one tooth on the timing belt, I talked to a guy that does VW's more than I do and he said that it was probably my belt being off one tooth, he said its like 30 degrees advance. I dunno. but the thing is off by at least one tooth
