Problem with Mk3 Golf 1.4

Recommended Posts

My mate is having running problems with his Mk3 1.4.

It's idle sits at about 2k and can be pretty erratic.

It also seems to take a hell of a lot of revs to get it to move from standing (although this could be clutch related).

So does it have an ISV that can be cleaned out? Or can anyone suggest other things to check/replace/bash with a hammer?

Any early responses greatly appreciated as we're wanting to have a look at it at lunch time!

check the multi plug which connects onto the ECU, specifically, you're looking for dodgy wires which are either cracked or disconnected... I know of 3 1.4 MKIII golfs which have all had similar problems related to this multiplug being pants...

The revs to get going thing sounds like a crap clutch...

Right - had the TB off and there is a multiplug which connects onto the TB - when it's disconnected the revs are fine. Reconnect it and the revs rise again.
