wierd vr6 starting problem

sometimes when I start my car it fires up ok but just dies immedietly. usually ok on the second go but last night kept doing it. when it fired up i gave it a bit of welly and then it idled no problem

 

car is running a HKS filter and decat but std otherwise. not really a big problem but its bugging me a little.

 

any tips?

Year of VR?

If late VR if could be the factory immobiliser playing up. The receiver for the key slips down the steering column - the further it slips, the further out of range it ends up for the key. Worth checking.

it has a cobra cat1 - not even sure if the factory immob even works !
