G60 needs a respray

Hey everybody! My black G60 is in need of a respray cause the last owner must have thought that bird poo was a nice bit of decoration. So I've got lime attack on the roof and on the bonnet. Plus, some little jobbie has keyed the entire passenger side and there are a few carpark dings all round. Was just going to get the entire outer shell resprayed and bring the car back to it's former glory. I have been quoted with varying amounts, one was £1500 worst case scenario (but they didn't see the car) and the other was £2000 min. The point to this thread (eventually) is can anyone recommend a good bodyshop in the Glasgow area who I can get a quote from? Plus, would it cost much to get some Audi door handles fitted while it's in there? Cheers, Grim

i wouldnt trust any shop that gives you a quote without seeing the car. im from canada, or id tell you to get my friend to do it. good luck.

Cheers G60. Gonna take it down to that garage so they can see it and give me a better idea of a price. The only reason they gave me a price without seeing the car was 'cause my girlfriend deals with them alot thriugh her work and I asked her to ask them to get a rough idea for me. They do alot of insurance repairs for a large insurance company over here and are supposed to be very good. How much d'ya reckon it would cost to ship my car over and have your mate do it? :lol: :lol: :tongue:

I think for the shipping costs, you could probably have your car resprayed at TVR with a full metallic flip job mate ;)

One place I was at had a "wee" Bently in for fome work and it was costing £28K to spray it! Can you get a black flip colour?

Hi I just had some work done on my car there is a body shop just around the corner from the Kingston Car Wash. Ask for Stuart. I can get the name and number if you wish. It is just up from the ESSO garage and across the road from the Tube station. Cant remember which one.

 

They done a spot on Job. If you want you can have a look at what they done on mine.

 

It needs a wash.

I work at Sky Park if you want to see the work. I could post you some pics send me your email address. To be honest I could send you 100 you could never tell with a camera.

 

The tube station is West Street so just over the kingston bridge I will get the number for you when I'm in the office. You could walk 20 yards and you would be in his workshop. They do MOTs etc as well.

I'm having my VR6 completely resprayed for similar reasons. While your getting it done I check around the windows if they have been changed. Autoglass the slash and dash specialist have proudly put their sticker on mine, and you can see the scratches and rust from that professional change.

 

As a guide, stripped alot of the car bits myself to save money (bumpers, lights, mirrors, etc) and got a quote for £800.

Speaking of bird shit, i just came back from three days away to find my bonnet had been used as a toilet by some nasty flying creature. The result is that this acid-arsed bird has left four or five marks that seem to have eaten into the paintwork :mad: Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could do about it other than buying a shotgun and getting trigger happy with those tree-dwelling bastards?

Do you park near any trees or is the car in the driveway? You could get a car cover but I've heard of them removing paint on some occasions. If you can't park your car in a garage when you leave it for periods of time then there is not much you can do. Try T-cut or MER on the bonnet first of all. Might not be as bad as you think. Might take a few applications to sort it.

Cheers Bigrim, I'll give t-cut a try on it. I usually keep it garaged but left it in the drive under a tree, but I am amazed at how fast a bit of bird crap went to work on the paint. I've only had the car a coupl of months and since then I've painstakingly kept it clean, but maybe I'll have to ditch the turtle wax in favour of a better quality product. After all, there's only so many t-cuts you can do without wearing it away.

Hi. On a similar theme to the start of this thread. Does anyone know of a good paint/body shop in the Edinburgh area? I bought my C just over a week ago and the previous owner didn't seem to believe in waxing, or indeed washing, his car. So the paint has oxidised to a lovely (not) pink and there's scratches and chips a plenty. Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement rear bumper? Cracking hole in the current one.

Yo Biggrim, I had my G40 resprayed by Joe @ McEwan Coachworks in Cambuslang, just behind Scot Kart. He made an excellent job of it and was very reasonable. My dad has known him for years. Here some pics. Not great photos but you get the idea.

Cool, I'll take my car over and get a price from him. Probably won't be able to get it done till later in the year but it can't hurt to get a quote. Cheers for that mate 8)
