Wiring/petrol pump problems :(

Recommended Posts

Hello guys

I really really need someones help out there

Ok a bit of back ground to help out

My car has started of as a 1.8 16v on k-jet and I got hold of a complete loom from a corrado G60 with no wires cut.

So i removed the four or five plugs (cant remember how many) and replaced them from the g60 one. Straight fit no problems.

Anyway ive just finished all the work need and gone to start it and everything is turning fine but the flipping pumps arent getting power

fuel relays are clicking

fuel pump fuse is fine and corret one

the only thing i cant find is the fuel pump over-run

so come on guys please tell me what whats going wrong?? and i have connected something wrong???

Could it be something to do with the 16v running 2 pumps but the g60 only runs a single, in tank, pump?

Priming as in when you turn the ignition but don't actually start the car, you should hear the fuel system repressurize itself - ie a second or so of whirring from the fuel pump.

yeah its not doing that

also ive just been investigating a little futher using the good old bentley's manual and i dont know if its me but the fuel pump relay is clicking but on the "exit" side there is no current showing

I opened it up and it looks fine but can see it moving

do these relays go often??

afaik only the 16v models run the 2 pump setup. Its more powerful than the vr/g60 setup as the K-Jet system requires a higher fuel pressure from what ive read.

Alex, the fuel pump should only run when the engine is rotating, except for when it primes. This is a safety feature to prevent fuel pumping all over when the car has been involved in a prang.

The fuel pressure for a G60/VR is lower than that of a 16v. The difference due to the the fact it is the fuel pressure that opens the injectors on K-jet. A K-jet engine would run on a digifant pump but the low fuel pressure would cause problems at high revs due to inadequate fuel delivery.

yep pump was priming but becuase i didnt put in the clips on the injectors.fuel rail to hold it all in together it started to leak out of there :(

Im just about to embark on this conversion myself over winter, got everything together just gathering info at the mo so it all goes smoothly, will i be able to leave both pumps on the car or will i nee some G60 fuel lines to remove the undercar all together?

Harry, The g60 should run fine with the 16v fuel pumps, in fact, the pump would probably be capable of going to a higher bhp rating than the g60 one. The connection on the fuel hose is different however. The 16v uses a sort of solid line with a banjo fitting on the end, the g60 uses standard fuel hose with a clip. This would need to be adapted somehow and the clips would have to be pretty decent to withstand the extra pressure. The extra pressure shouldnt be a problem with running as the fpr will compensate.

aposegil, thinking a bit more on your problem, the above test only really shows the wiring is ok between the fuel pump and fuse box. We still dont know if its definately the relay thats the problem or if its not being activated. Try putting a multimeter or test light in where the 2 thinner pins on the relay go and turn the ignition on and see what happens. Should get a voltage for about 2 seconds then drop back to zero, then a voltage when turning the engine over.

well as ull prob see as ive just posted up on the general forum it wasnt the petrol pump relay

I alos found that there was no spark which upto that point i didnt think about checking

it was actually the fact i had no ECU relay it was only after alot of headache did we realise this as the 16v never come with them standard  but the min i "borrowed" one of migs the car electronics worked :D
