  1. Hey all Slightly the wrong website for this question but thought I'd give it a shot anyway. I want to find somewhere (preferably in/near London (-ish!)) that does short mechanics courses specifically for (old) Land Rovers. i.e. I am interested in doing some serious overlanding and want to know my way around a Land Rover and to be able to do basic repairs. Any help!??! Much appreciated
  2. Thanks alot everyone - however, due to escalating costs of parts and the damage on the other car I am having to bite the bullet and go down the insurance avenue....even though i will be paying the price for the next 3 years.... Cheers anyway
  3. Hi Not sure what is is called - the bit of metal between the grill and the bumper - but it has been damaged with a minor collision and is pushing the bonnet up a wee bit (and is all screwed up itself). I am told by the stealers that you have to replace the whole front panel for a disgusting fee of almost 500 quid just for the parts. Anyone have any further knowledge on this that could lead to a cheaper solution?! Ta
  4. Anyone ever experienced anything like this before?... Went to start my 1994 16V 2.0l (which has never been a problem at all and had new battery 6 monthes ago when I bought it) but there was NO reaction at all when I turned the ignition i.e. no noise from the starter motor (but the lights/ radio etc all worked fine indicating no battery problem). Next day I tried again and it didn't work. Later on, when I was just about to call the AA I tried to start the car and it worked just fine..... There is an immobilier fitted that the guy I bought it off said had caused problems with the starter motor (don't know what sort of problems) and hence it has been deactivated (don't ask me how - no idea about these things). Does anyone have an idea as to what might be the problem as I have now lost all confidence that the car will start when I need it to! Cheers.....[schild=6 fontcolor=000000 shadowcolor=C0C0C0 shieldshadow=1]wierd![/schild]
  5. Thanks alot for that guys. have bought the paint and will get to it. Just out of unexperienced curiosity - when you say 'pop into VW' - what do you mean? A VW dealer? (or are there place you can go to buy from vw direct?) ta.
  6. I've got a thick scratch about 20cm long above the rear wheel arch on my red C. 1. Is there any trick to prevent rust in the short term (ie anyone know of anything i can put on it in the meantime to prevent further corrosion)? 2. WHat the best/most economical way of getting it sorted? Is it poss to buy touchup paint/spraypaint/'pen'? Can you still get matching colours for a 1994 Corrado? All advice/help much appreciated! THanks
  7. hi forgive my lack of knowledge on exhausts....and please enlighten me. The exhaust on my C is loose at the back and the 2 rear 'joints' on the exhaust seem to have gone (had a look at it when on the ramp at Kwik Fit). The current exhaust (while I don't know what it is) seems to be non-standard as it is quite a wide pipe. [Just so you know, I am not after any fancy exhaust - I just want one that works and is reasonable cheap/good value.] SO....the problems I have been having. Kwik Fit couldn't supply one of the sections of the exhaust. Other dealers I have phoned have said they only have parts for 2.0 16v pre -1994 (mine is 1994). Another garage said they can source it and fit it for around £250. that sounds crazy price. What is going on here? Can someone explain to me. Anyone know of good place to go in london? Should I go to VW (how do i do that) and buy it direct and then get it fitted? Help much needed and appreciated....
  8. About every 20 jouneys the yellow ABS light stays on. I think that this is to do with low pressure in the ABS system??? Anyone know if this is serious? Does it need to be checked? If so, How much to check and / or repair? Does it really matter? cheers
  9. Btw, my car is a L reg 1994 Corrado 2.0 16v
  10. Guys No idea what my tyre pressures should be. They are 17" alloys low profile (don't know the make etc but obviously can find out v soon). Any idea what pressures they should be or where I can find out? Ta!
  11. Just bought a Corrado (2.0 16V 1994). Would be great to have some advice on the following problems (please forgive the simplicity, I'm not very technicial....yet) 1. The lights behind the heating/vent dials on the dash don't work, nor the light in the glovebox - is this fuse related or bulbs? 2. In general, whats the best way to go about getting spare parts? Any one know of any reliable, reasonable VW servicing in london (preferably west-ish)? 3. Spare wheel - the car has 17" alloys on it. The spare is a 13" space saver. Not knowing anything about this, can i put a 13" wheel on temporarily as a spare with all the other wheels much larger? 4. Does the coolant have to be the exact one in the manual - anyone have an opinion on this? Thats it! Thanks for any help/info.
