Rado wont start !...6 Weeks in the garage ...help !
Robo's Rado replied to Robo's Rado's topic in Engine Bay
Yes, the voltage from the temp senders and the thermotime switch have been checked..... i also tried swapping the temp senders around.... no joy ! -
This bl00dy Rado's gona get torched ! As the weather got cold my 1994 2L 16V started cutting out in the mornings. It started on the button but if you took your foot off the gas it cut out. By the time i got to the end of the road it would run but the revs were a bit low and after 1-2 miles it was spot on . I could then leave it all day with no problem. Once warm it ran spot on ! This started to bug me so i took it to a local VW specialist to get sorted. First off they changed the Lambda sensor and a split hose, £265 thanks….. but when I got it back it was worse than ever and the next morning failed to start at all. It turned over but wouldn’t catch. After getting it towed back to the garage they have changed the Injectors, ISV and tried a second hand metering unit. Luckily ive access to another Rado so when they wanted to fit a new pressure actuator I borrowed one to try…. saving a couple of hundred £, while I had the other car they also swapped the cold start valve and ECU. Its now been in the garage for 6 weeks and still wont start when cold. Is there anything obvious they could have missed, they have done a fuel pressure test, which was fine. Im getting desperate, its my only car and I need to get it back, any help or ideas much appreciated !!!

After getting it towed back to the garage they have changed the Injectors, ISV, tried a second hand metering unit and are now looking at replacing the Presure Actuator... This is getting expensive. Im probably going to borrow the pressure regulator of another rado so at least i dont have to pay to try it. Is there anything obvious they could have missed, they say they have done a fuel pressure test which was fine. Now once it starts it runs fine and will start again but when cold it is a pig taking a few goes to get it going... i was thinking non return valve in the fuel line or pump or similar. Interested to hear any theorys ! ! Ive been 2 weeks without it now and its not looking like getting sorted any time soon !

Help ! Steering lock and ignition barrel problems
Robo's Rado replied to Robo's Rado's topic in Drivetrain
Done a search and still not too sure, mines the later type with transponder key and adjustable column. Ive read that to get the steering lock off you have to break the alloy housing. If you have to do this to get the old one off how does the new one fit on ? I also take it from what ive read that to get the old barrel out involves drilling a hole in the barrel, but i cant find where. Ive ordered a bentlys but that will probably take a week to arrive and i dont want the car off the road for that long. Does anybody know where to drill the hole ? -
Please help, I put my key in the ignition of my M reg corrado 2L 16v yesterday and it wouldn’t turn. After getting it home on the back of a breakdown truck I tried to strip the mechanism off complete with steering lock. I drilled out the two shear bolts but the steering lock mechanism still wont come off the assembly. All the banging does seem to have freed off the barrel mechanism and I can now get the key to turn. So I need to know how to replace the lock barrel and how to remove the steering lock. Any help much appreciated. Cheers in advance !

This all sounds a bit disapointing ! Thought it sounded a bit too easy ....

Anyone had any experiance of one of these, i have been thinking of a remap from Dubsport for around £350, they reckon it gives 20bhp. Anyone had it done or any other type of chip ? ?
