  1. this may well have been said on thread already but really cant be arsed trauling through twenty pages to find out,so apologies in advance! I remember reading an article years ago on subframe movement,vw audi car i think?anyway, someone asked on the second page how the subrame is attached. the answer not very well from what i could gather. An owner was experiencing the same problems as us. The reply was that the bolts screw into captive nuts under the floorpan which can become loose. his cure was to cut away the floor directly above where the frame attaches and weld those nuts into place, i,m about to strip the old girl for some updating so i,l be having a nosey to confirm what i remember as true or false.
  2. just been nosing around on club gti,s forum looking for how to trim my mk2,s front arches to g60 spec. came across a piece on rear arches being trimmed(along the arch return lip) anyway they mentioned its double skinned and if you trim it,you need to weld it.does the same apply to the c? i know some members have done this,(myself included) all ineed to know now is whether to break out the welder!!
  3. thats a very good point,i'l have a look at that as soon as the rain stops. i'm going to give dubsport a bell monday see what they can do
  4. just had a little do with the timing and it seems to smoothen out the running apart from the same old problem, when i rev it it wont settle correctly,it wobbles about close to stalling then settles til you rev it again. all pipes are fine no cracks or any loose. any ideas??
  5. thats what i,m wondering? i'd imagine the stub would bent before the axle? it had no obvious distortion when i changed the axle bushes. i know people have modded rear stubs, just dont know the best way? i would magine a new stub is required before anything else??
  6. just wondering if anyone knows how to modify the rear stubs to get the tops of the wheels in?(negative i beleive?) my n/s rear wheel leans out! ive fitted new axle bushes and the bearings are fine. we wonder whether some impact on the wheel has bent the stub?not sure but it could explain the damaged spare. anyway,if anyone has experienced this or nows a cure i'd appreciate it! thanks!! heres a pic to help.
  7. yep your probably right,i'l go over it again this weekend, bit of a rushed job. if im honest its never really run brilliantly. i'l check those pipes again but couldnt see a fault last time i looked. thanks for the advice even though my questions can seem silly at times!
  8. hello there, my 1.8 16v is running rough after i replaced my cambelt and pulleys. it stinks of fuel and runs poorly but does go when i floor it. ive serviced it with new oil and air filter and there appears to be oil film inside the metering head.which it seems to have pulled through the breather hose. i know the mixture screws on the metering head but seems silly but which way do you turn it?daft i know! plus anyone know a decent k-jet tuner in the lancs area? thanks for your help, any advice appreciated
  9. too true, the gig went surprisingly well must have been the anger!! well im happy to report true to they,re word they sorted it!! so i suppose alls well that ends well.
  10. did this job around a week ago, the biggest headache was removing the brake pipe unions at the rear axle,so cut the copper lines and had new ones made up,that was getting it of,next you will need a reciprocating saw,i beleive its called, to hack the old ones out! i cleaned up the surfaces, lined the bush up and use a threaded rod through the bush with a variety of wahers one side(outer, against the beam and housing) then comes the weird bit, profiled some hardwood,to match the bush face and with a big nut and washer gradually applied force and it works a treat, and no the wood doesnt split as long as its good hard wood! will illustrate if needed, saves three hundred quid, thats all i know!!
  11. This is a tale i simply must tell! At the weekend i went into town to a local spot to play a gig. so with my work being so close i decided to take full advantage of my car pass to park in a relatively safe spot, after being nagged to park closer too! anyway car parked and i,m at the venue i get a call from a friend who works the hotel bar across from work,"alright bud" he says"have you forgotten to put your pass in the car?" "no" i reply only to hear that they,d took my car and gone! of course at first i didnt beleive it but when someone swears on his life you tend to run! i get there and sure enough, its gone. i rang the firm and asked for them to stop, check my window then bring my beloved back. he rings back and the cars on its way back. i was inspecting the car for damage before it even stopped! nothing, they hadnt marked it a bit! fantastic! he then informed me that they we,re and i quote"proffesionals!" and proceeded to try to perch the car on two bricks under each front wheel,i was unsure but at this time the band were frantically trying to ring me as they were on stage ready to soundcheck! they lowered the car, using one of those twin hooped hiab things they tow cars with, with the wheels still on they,re trolleys at the back, trying to place the bricks, the car rolled backwards and fell!!!! right onto the big arm of the hiab thing(technical terms i apologise for!) smash! the lower spoiler and bumper crumple, hitting the main arm of the device, folding beneath the car producing a smile effect from my lower front bumper, understandable unhappy about this i took details of the crew and let the p*ss off while i got to the show. anyway cut to monday and upon phoning said agency the owner proceeds to assure me no damage was caused, and being not the only one here to spend more time under it than driving it riled me to say the least! i asked him to come and see for himself resulting in a string of excuses such as "the pass wasnt visable" and "lower spoilers are there to be battered" and "its ok its just some clips have broke!" the bumper has sprung back but its now fatigued and sagging,(will post a pic soon!) anyway he has agreed if its a reasonble quote,he,l fix it,i will keep you all updated....just be very choosy where you park!!
  12. sorted it! just took a bit of messin with the tension. runs lovely and smooth now. just a service and tune to go!
  13. thanks lads i,l do a search and do whats required thaks again
  14. hi, just wondered if anyone had encountered noisy heater fans and fixed em? mine just buzzes and whines away. is it just a case of new fan??
  15. ok, this is a tricky one! i,like most of you am suffering greatly at the hands of my car! i,m experiencing almost every handling problem that we discuss. however i do fear crash damage,i know its been touched. i also know the front subframe is twisted (slightly) i was informed this by the local vw specialist. he said that the chassis was ok,just the subframe damaged. is there any way to find out for sure if the chasis is ok? i,l replace everything that needs doing if it is. but if the chassis is damaged surely its not worth starting? its basically going to make or break the project! any help is greatly appreciated on this even if its just obvious things i need to look out for. thanks
