  1. Aghh!! After replacing the ECU and the ignition coil all was well for 1 week apart from this fuel gauge issue - which seem to sort itself out. Filled up yesterday and after 125miles it just cut out...in rush hour traffic. Managed to start it again but cut out a few miles down the road. The fuel gauge registers fuel but it cut out like there was no fuel in the tank. I picked up 5 litres of 99 octane poured it in and it started again. Took it home. Turned off the engine and it wouldn't start again. Tried it this morning, started first time. The starter motor is brand new and seems to working fine but the engine will not fire for some reason. Strange smell coming through the vents, bit of white smoke out back to. Had enough now - can't afford to spend anymore on the old girl. £2500 in two years is enough I think. Any ideas?
  2. Right - I'll have a go a the pump/float assembly then. I had the MPG trip computer on setting 2! (Idiot). Second time. Thanks all.
  3. In response to my own topic - managed to sort out the MPG reading, but the fuel gauge is still not happy. Is the fuel measured from within the tank or is there a sensor I could replace in the engine bay..somewhere? Please help! Cheers all.
  4. Looking for some advice on a faulty fuel gauge. I have just replaced the ignition coil and ECU unit and discovered that my fuel gauge is reading half a tank when in fact the tank is full. The MPG reading is also way low. Any suggestions ?
  5. Paul, check your ECU. It may be something like the ignition coil shorting out.

    Fuel Filter

Howdy all - having issues with the fuel demand in my G60. I must have picked up a nasty fuel batch from my local Tesco but the car is lurching all over the place, the idling is all over the place as is the fuel gauge when the tank is low on gas. I filled up with some Super Unleaded and that seemed to sort the problem however as the fuel level dipped below a quarter of a tank the lurching started up again. I reckon it's either water in the fuel or a piece of black oxide stuck in the fuel filter. Car is back with the garage..again, after a less than pleasing experience with a 'new' starter motor. It had to be replaced under warranty with a new new one. Anyone had similar problems with intermitent fuel blockage?

    Bad Vibrations

Just an update on the vibrations - the garage replaced the powersteering belt and that seems to have sorted it. Much smoother now. Thanks again
  8. Does anyone know if the ABS light needs sorting before a pass will be issued on the MOT? I have been informed by the garage that this is the case. The light seems to turn on when I touch the brake pedal after ignition. After reading the thread it seems the two are connected and the sensor is found in the engine bay?! Help!

    Bad Vibrations

Rimshot, VR6 will bring it up with the garage next week (due for a cam-belt change) at 150 000 miles. Quoted £180 for the job including labour. Thanks for the help.

    Bad Vibrations

Getting vibrations through the stearing column - I have replaced all 4 tyres, swapped rims and balanced and carried out tracking. The problem has reduced slightly but it's still there and comes through at around 130 km/hr. I figure it may be warped rims. They are a BBS variety. Has anyone else had this problem? Any ideas? Cheers all.
  11. Having similar problems with my G60. ABS light remains on permanently. Apparently I need a new ABS pump unit.
