1.8 Petrol, GL, non ABS. Yes, manually, undid the nipples and got my dad to repeatedly press on the brake, then after several strokes he held the pedal down, I did up the nipple and then topped up the resovoir... repeat on each wheel. We had the cover off the drums on one side to check wear and it was looking good, do you mean take the entire lot off? Surely leakage would be slow, or would have happened before and not all of a sudden? Sorry it asking stupid questions :s

Are you refering to a gold? Only checking as no ABS on this one, and from what I read the C has a bleed on the master cylinder but not sure about the gold

Hey Wondered if anyone has encountered this before, or if it sounds like the same problem still. Brakes were fine Had a problem with the electrics and car stalled, so had to stand on the brakes to get it to stop ok. Tow truck to garage and fixed. (mentioning this incase the very strong applied pressure may have damaged something) The second I picked the car up the brakes were weird. One in every 20 tries they just weren't there, foot to the floor and no stopping, but the other 19 times they were fine. So I got some brake fluid (dot 4) and bled the brakes. Now I get a similar thing but slightly different... if I brake sharpish or hard they kick in ok (bit of spongy-ness at the top but not much)... however if I pull away again and slowly apply the brakes my foot goes all the way to the floor with no resistance or stopping at all. Before it was random now its perfectly predictable. I bled the brakes with my dad (very handy guy but this not his forte) and got bubbles out of 3 of the 4 pipes (although we incorrectly did the front two brakes first), he thinks it may be a check valve gone, or the cup shaped seal in the master cylinder, which would explain why gentle pressure doesn't trigger the brakes but a sharper action does. Does it sounds like they need re-bleeding, or new parts/seals? We only bled the brakes as I cant see an obvious bleed nipple on the master cylinder (unless its hidden behind out of reach/sight. As its a golf I've searched the vortex forums a bit but cant find anything, but I guess its more a common car problem rather than a golf one? '94 Golf III - 1.8 Petrol. Thanks

PS/bump - Also.... I have never pretended to be good with engines etc etc, but EVEN I KNOW that the spark plugs don't go into the sump lol.... I have no idea why I had it in my head that it was the head gasket. Please excuse me while I search for the most embarassed smilie I can find.

Many thanks supercharged, think I will call him tomorrow and get it (providing he fixs the other problem on the window lol)

Hi, I can't get the info as its near Bradford and I'm in Sheffield. Both your suggestions sound like quite simple fix's (no complaints there!), any thoughts on worst case scenario?

Hi, I can't see what the rules on posting in here are, not sure if non corrado posts are allowed, however its a 1.8 petrol Golf mkIII, and as they share the vr6 engine and maybe some others I thought it was pretty close? (the engine code for this car is either AAM, ANN, ABS, ADZ, ANP... but I've looked around and can't see what engine codes the Corrado has). If a problem can a mod please move to the 'general forum', if ok then I appreciate any help. The car is a '94 with 100k on the clock, apart from the oil problem the car is brilliant, however all around the head gasket there is signs of oil that has leaked out and run a few inches down the block, it seems to be all the way around the block at the level where the head gasket goes, it's as though there is no gasket there at all and therefore no real seal. The oil is now covered in grit which I think has blown in from under the car etc. No signs of oil on the floor under the car. What oil there is left in the sump (below minimum) looks pretty clean and good (not new but not black and sooty). The car took one or two revs to start but I think its been stood two weeks, not terrible but not amazing. I know its very weak info, and I don't expect any life saving advice on such a bad description but just wondered if anyone has come across this before or its a known problem. Thanks - Andy http://www.andy90.co.uk/100820081023.jpg

See that is something i always thought. Problem is that some people that have worked in insurance say that they are very keen to give the engine a once over with a spanner looking for mods. Anyone any opinions on this ?

Hey, Not sure whether to bump this and ask for the same or post a new one, but just to prove im the kind of guy to use the search i'll use this lol. A few people have talked about it but not seen any links, checked the wiki and googled for a bit but didnt see much in english. Is it still possible to get a copy of this ? Although ive been a member for a long time (wanted a corrado for even longer) ive never had the money for one, not even close. Well uni is finished i have my first proper paid job starting in four weeks so you can bet your ASS im getting one ASAP !!! (prob about 2-3 months) You lot have no idea how long i have wanted one and sat here reading the forums lol. So yes, WHEN (not if) i get my beloved C im afraid you will have another noob in the forums but im starting reading now to get up to speed a bit. SO anyways back on topic, if anyone has a link around for this it would be much appreciated. I accept all types of download, FTP, BT, HTTP, Email (though it sounds big) and even smoke signals although i would like to use another. Thanks :thumbleft:

How much for ? You never know, you could be the first in the UK to get one lol, start a new craze :D

And money. I have wanted a C for coming up to 6 years now. At my age the insurance for a g60 is just over a grand, for a VR6 about 1200... but its the oringinal cost of the car that will prob stop me.

Might have a second car thats not a vr6

Bit more sure: She couldnt add my sister to her last insurance, so she moved to ASDA as they would, for an ok price, but also they said that at any time my sister could be removed from the insurance and a refund given. My mum specifically asked that knowing full well my sister would only be on it for x months, they said fine, and that she could be taken off on the day of the call with a refund starting from the first of the next month and no prior notice needed. So when she phoned up to cancel they told her about the admin fees (which she was expecting) they then said the refund would be £x etc... which was about £200 less than the full monthly refund, they then denied everything about the full refund etc. The only way my mum manged to do it was to cancel the entir policy (more admin charges) start a new one without my sister on, so now they have her for another 12 months, and still didnt give the entire refund. The admin charges are now over £100, and this refund is apparently £4500 (which i say she should take them to court over when they dont pay it haha), so she has no idea because nothing adds up (i checked). So no idea what on earth they are doing, but they managed to get her for more money so they are happy :-/ Its getting to the stage these days with call centres where im tempted to make my own copy of the call for future reference etc :-/
