  1. Got a 2.0 16v, 90k on original springs, dampers and bushes. In the engine bay, at the top of the front struts, first there's the chassis metal, then a big rubber bush, then a pressed steel cup. The top of the strut pokes up throught he middle of all of this and a nut is on its threaded end, locking it againsst the steel cup. On my car, there's a gap of 10-12mm between the chassis and the bottom of the rubber bush, which just looks *wrong*. If I raise the car up on a jack, the strut falls down and the gap disappears. Is this what they're supposed to be like? Just doesn't seem right to me! Rich.
  2. Thanks. This forum seems to be littered with positive comments about them. Just got to figure out how to drop the car off and get back to Brum.... Richard.
  3. I need to get my 2.0 16V serviced by someone who can tell me why it wallows an hops round corners and fix its inability to get into 1st gear at busy junctions. Anyone got any experience of PT Motorsport (south Brum)? Any other recommendations not already in the listings (I'm in north Brum)? Suggestions very much appreciated.
  4. OK so my dampers may still be perfectly OK. Seems (unsurprisingly!) that they probably wear out sooner on VR6's, but I'm still convinced that there's something wrong in there somewhere. Maybe I just need to get someone who knows what they're talking about to give it a good once-over. Thanks for the comments.
  5. M-plate 2.0 16v, 86k apparently on the original dampers. Handling is sometimes scary, lots of barely controlled role, particularly on direction changes on uneven road. Quite scary sometimes. Obvious thing is nackered dampers (but they pass the 'bounce test'); 86k seems quite a lot for dampers. Anyone got any thoughts on how long dampers should last? Also, what are the symptinos of worn engine mounts? R.
  6. Guess the same happened to the 16vs as well. Maybe when my dampers are shot (must be soon because they've done 80k) I'll get it returned to the 'early' ride height. Seem to remember the handling being a bit more reactive with a bit less body roll.
  7. Used to have a 1.8 16V (89G) six years ago, have just bought a 2.0 16V (95M), both apparently had standard suspension, both with 15" wheels, but the 2.0 looks like it's on stilts compared with the 1.8. Sits a good 20-30mm higher! Started looking at other Corrados since, including VR6's, and newer ones all seem to ride much higher than the older ones. What's going on? Did VW change the springs / mounts some time in the early nineties?
