Thanks for confirming, I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was looking for! I've managed to find someone breaking a mk4 just round the corner from me so will have the parts by the weekend. Thanks again for your help!

Damn, I thought that was probably going to be the answer. I spent ages yesterday afternoon reading various links and came to the same conclusion, early mk4's had the wrong type of shift setup. It all came out of a mk4 golf gti but can't remember what year, must have been an early one it seems. I've found this on ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/02J301107C-5-speed-manual-GEARBOX-VW-SKODA-SEAT-AUDI-PETROL-DIESEL/183645300858 Does that look like the correct shift tower?

Hi, I've bought the Polo parts for this and already had what I thought was a mk4 shifter setup but it's nothing like the mk4 stuff on those ebay links and the shifter won't fit in the polo housing so not sure what it's off now! However I was wondering if anyone could confirm the shift tower I have is correct, as that was off the same car so I don't want to buy a 2nd hand shifter without tower if it turns out I need a tower as well! The tower I have is definitely off an 02J gearbox so I'm hoping the tower is correct at least. OK great - thanks for the useful information! Now I just have to find the mk4 gearbox I know is somewhere in my garage and hope it's got the right shift tower!

It's been a while since posted any updates, being ill, waiting for tools and Christmas means I haven't got as far as I wanted. Finally got the engine out and gearbox off. Next job is to sort out a couple of oil leaks and am then going to look at cleaning the engine bay and trying to get the wiring loom looking a bit tidier.

Hi, I've been reading about upgrading the gearbox in G60 to the CTN box to give better gear ratio's, and have also been reading about changing the shifting mechanism to the mk4 stuff. However I can't seem to find anything from anyone that has done both changes together. I've found something about changing the shift towers over from the O2A box into the CTN, but that it also needs some modifications making. So would that also need doing if I was to try putting the mk4 shift tower in the CTN box? Any help is appreciated! David.

I agree, although I am biased! :)

So it's over 4 years since I updated this thread, it looks like all the pictures have gone now unfortunately :( Anyway in June 2012 I nipped out at lunch to the local Halfords, while I was stopped at some traffic lights a woman behind the car behind me mistook her accelerator for the brake pedal, she crashed into the Corsa behind me which then crashed into me. The car wasn't written off, but I ended up spending the insurance payout on a holiday to Iceland instead of fixing the car! I then lost interest in it so it's sat in my parents garage. Some years I would take it for an MOT but that was about all the miles it did. However, a few months ago I decided that it needed fixing and found a decent bodyshop (http://www.derbyshirebodyshopservices.com) to sort it out for me. I'm really happy with their work and it's finally starting to look better :) I've got a massive list of jobs that need doing on it, first one is removing the engine so I can clean the engine bay up, fit a new clutch and gear change mechanism and sort out a couple of small oil leaks. I spent a couple of hours on it yesterday afternoon and made good progress. I'll try to keep this thread up to date with how I get on over the winter and hopefully keep me motivated to finish it in time for some shows next year :)

Think I might have figured this out thanks to your suggestion - the car has had a new battery recently and I'm betting one of the earth wires for the uprated headlight loom was disconnected and not put back. I'll have to check that later this week when I go to where the car is stored.

OK thanks, will take a look at that. I'm hoping that would be OK though as I put in an upgraded headlight loom a few years ago to take load off that switch and wiring!

Hi, My G60 Corrado (91) has developed a fault where the entire dash stops working when I switch on the sidelights and headlights. Everything on the dash stops working - speedo, revcounter, indicator lights etc. I also noticed that the main beam bulb in the dash is faintly illuminated when this happens. I think it must be some sort of earth fault but was wondering if anyone had any idea's where to start looking to pinpoint the cause. I've done a search on here and google and can't see anything that looks similar. Thanks, David.

Thanks for both the replies - PM'd you both

Hi, I'm looking for a rear bumper (think they're all the same but in case it's a 1990 G60), doesn't really matter if it's cracked or marked, so long as the metal crash guard is OK. I'm in Nottingham so somewhere near there would be handy! Thanks, David.

have you checked the isv - i had the same sort of thing happen to mine and it turned out that was knackered

I wasn't sure how they'd look either but at the end of the day I decided that they'd hardly be visible once the engine is in, like you say it makes it a bit more individual :) Here's a few more photos of what I've been doing for the last few weeks. Bear with me as there's been quite a bit of progress! I've replaced all the rubber brake pipes with braided ones and fitted new front discs/pads: Engine getting built up and fastened to front crossmember: I got hold of a 4 branch manifold and heatwrapped it: Here's the engine fully built up and ready to be put in (minus the alternator as I had managed to misplace it at some point in the last few months :censored: ): Final shot of engine bay minus engine: And finally the engine back where it belongs: Getting closer to the end now, front bumper etc all put together: And here it is after it's moved under it's own steam for the first time in almost a year: My brothers new project is just in the background of this photo: I took it for a drive round the block and found out there was no power steering, it looks like the pump might have gone or that there is an airlock somewhere. I'm going to take it for a drive tomorrow night hopefully and see if it gets any better. If it doesn't I've got another pump I can try on it. Apart from that the end is almost in sight, I'm going to get it MOT'd this week then I need to run it in before June 30th as it's booked in with Stealth for a remap.
