G60GAZ 0 Posted December 28, 2002 has anybody in here fitted a bigger intercooler and if so what kinda intercooler did you use?? i read somewhere that the intercooler from a volvo t5 fits in?? i got a price of £320stg for a full front mounted pace item but to use this one i also have to get my hands on the "u bend" outlet pipe from a rallye which is proving impossible to find second hand and very expensive new from vw
W3RKD 0 Posted December 28, 2002 you have to modify the t5 i/cooler to fit and it is not a easy diy job! there is all the pipework to make-up the pipeork WILL cost more than the i/cooler itself! also the t5 i/cooler comes with plastic ends so new ALLY ones need to be fabricated if you want the ultimate i/cooler it is alot of work... WELL WORTH IT THOUGH!! we could sort somthing out for you if you are intrested give us a call!
G60GAZ 0 Posted December 29, 2002 cheers darren how big is the t5 intercooler...........does it take up the whole front panel?? a mate of mine had a pace intercooler made up for his 16v g60 corrado and it sits chasis leg to chasis leg the thing is huge, its the dogs bollox! so unless the t5 one is of similar size or i can find one that is i would probably opt for the pace option. i dont suppose by any chance darren you guys would be able to source me the "u-bend" outlet pipe from a rallye as they(rallyes) are very very rare over here in ireland and non-existant as "breakers" in scrap yards!!!! or does anybody out there have one of these parts for sale?????
W3RKD 0 Posted January 5, 2003 you can use the rallye air con out let with a 180deg samco this would cost alot less than a gen rallye outlet.
G60GAZ 0 Posted January 11, 2003 yeah thats what my mate uses on his g60 16v corrado because with it being right hand drive he couldnt mount the alternator behind the block(because of the master cylinder) so he had to mount the alternator under the charger. But the samco hose tends to blow off when you drive it very hard, thats why i would prefer to get my hands on the rallye item. so you guys wouldnt be able to source this item for me over in england then??? because like i said i will never come across one over here!!! G60ING 0 Posted January 12, 2003 But the samco hose tends to blow off when you drive it very hard why not fix this problem? where is the hose blowing off from? is it blowing off of a metal part or a plastic one. pics would be helpful.
Pau1 0 Posted January 13, 2003 Hi Guys, I've fitted an intercooler from an old Audi 200 Quattro. And I got it for the small price of a few grazed knuckles... As long as could remove it, I could have it for free! I did the mod last year and I must say that on the road the difference is massive. It's not an easy mod by any means but it's got to be one of the best things you can do to the G60. I had many problems with the plumbing but managed to get it all working fine eventually. Not after many embarasing momments racing VR6 golfs and the pipes would pop off. G60's with no boost aren't fast by the way... And when something goes pop on the G60 you just hope it's nothing too expensive. Give me a shout back if you want to see any piccy's Paul
vr6storm 0 Posted January 13, 2003 i was waiting for you to appear with your quattro-mod paul!!..... i can vouch for how fast paul's motor goes too.......thats the last time i try racing a white g-60  he's taken more than his fair share of vr6 scalps btw!!
G60Jet 1 Posted January 13, 2003 Hi Guys, Give me a shout back if you want to see any piccy's Paul SHOUT SHOUT I've got air con and am a bit shy on room i'd love to see how you did it and as many pics as you have. I live in Spain and the air is work here!!
Valver 0 Posted January 14, 2003 Yep, I'd like to see the Audi 200 intercooler also - did you have to get much custom pipework fabricated? My mate used a company called Rad-Tec in Wolverhampton to custom-build a Golf Rallye spec intercooler - cost him about £270 all in.
Pau1 0 Posted January 14, 2003 I will grab my camera tonight, I've only got a few piccys with the front bumper off. As for the pipework. I did it all myself using a combination of stainless steel and rubber 60mm dia pipes and hoses bought from a local supplier. You also have to moddify the end cap on one side of the cooler as it faces the wrong way when fitted. It would be easier to get the ends made up in alloy by someone but some cutting and plastic welding worked well and only blew off once... at 120mph.... so it was my own fault! I've fitted a dump valve to the pipe work and that stops the back pressure blowing anything off too. Paul
Pau1 0 Posted January 14, 2003 Here's some piccys more to follow tonight... Don't worry, I've replaced the rusty bits now... Paul
julesz 0 Posted January 14, 2003 Darren, What kind of performance increase are we talking here from your kit?
G60Jet 1 Posted January 14, 2003 Pau1A11an, Are you using this instead of or in line with the normal intercooler?? Nige B
Pau1 0 Posted January 14, 2003 It's instead of the original one. It only fits behind an RS bumper though remember, and I haven't seen a Corrado with A/C, do you have any piccy's of your engine bay?

In the main engine bay its not much differnet, the compressor is near the water pump to that out off the way. but the heat exchanger for the air con is infront of the rad. there are a few small pipes running round the engine bay but thats about it!
