Have had my car back form the garage for about a week now have had the following done:

New timing chain along with all the associated guides and tensioners.

New clutch and all associated parts, also a new crank oil seal.

New set of tappets.

New rocker cover gasket.

New inlet manifold gaskets.

New sump gasket.

New thermostat.

New coolant (G12+)

Oil and filter change.

At first I thought that I was going a bit over board but now that the car is back all I can say to you other VR drivers out there is just do it.

I’m sure your car deserves it, my car is whisper quite when I am just cooling out, and makes a sweet (sweeter) noise when I press the loud peddle. :D

Still running standard exhaust and induction, cant wait to get an aftermarket pipe and filter kit on it now.

All cost about £850, as usual the labour was more than the parts, at £500 and £350 respectively.

Remember VR’s need love too…

vondribbley,

From a mate of mine who runs a garage, they specialise in VW restorations mostly air cooled (big bucks) but one of the chaps is a water cooled expert. The work is good the price is good.

I’m sure he would do your work for a similar price, but coming down from Bristol sounds like a bit of a mission to me.
