drivers side indicators staying on

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

I found a bit of a problem last night when I was parking up after a night out. The drivers side indicator was on and flickering when the stalk was in the mid position. It was not flashing but flickering on and it was front, back and side repeaters that were doing it. This was happening when the headlamps were on. I moved the stalk to the other positions and the indicators worked ok but when I put the stalk in the mid position the flickering/on syndrome came back.

I have put in an uprated loom for the headlamps and I disconected the dip coil on the passenger side only. Is there one the drivers side too? would it cause this problem?.

The other thing I am concerned about it is the crappy alram that was fitted on this car, it seems to have a mind of its own.

Any other ideas? anyone had a similar problem?

yeah iv had this and it really did my nut in!

look under your air box, there should be a couple of wires wrapped up in their plastic, on mine the aluminium braided breather hose had rubbed through a few of the wires in the loom causing all sorts of weird things to happen with the lights.

any fuses been going yet?

your problem sounds same as what mine started like

Yep conleycrew3, it looks to be that connector on the back of airbox. I wigeled it about and the lights started working as normal.

I have to look why it is so loose but worst case I might put some crimps on there.

cheers mate,

i replaced all the wires from that point to the lights at the front because when we invesigated further, all the wires in that particular looming section under the air box had been frayed and were shorting out together, poping fuses as soon as they went in, even higher rated ones,( not reccomended but i had to try at the time )

I found the cause of this problem on my MK3 by sticking a bigger fuse in. The puff of smoke under the bonnet gave away the location of the short.

On mine it was blowing the fuse for the wipers as the short was down to 3 wires, the power to the wipers and earth and the feed to the right indicator.

Actually the problem I have is not the connector on the back of the airbox. I liked it directley and it still had the problem.

If I wiggle the air box gentley the problem seems to go. Therefore I am guessing its a similar problem to the one you have stated (wires under the air box). No fuses blown yet but I am guessing that the drivers side indicator and headlamp wires have chaffed and are touching each other. Dont seem to get maximum speed on the wipers either.

From your advice, I will take the air box off this weekend me thinks.

Cheersv
