G60 Head Gasket

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I have a K-reg G60 and it seems to be using a lot of water and the oil filler cap is starting to get a creamy white substance on it. Is the head gasket going?

Can anyone tell me approximately how much it would cost to change?

Cheers folks (this is my virgin post so please be gentle :) )

hello and welcome!

Depends if you've got the skills to do it yourself! The gasket is about £20 from GSF for an Elring gasket.

If not it's gonna sting a bit!

The heat exchanger is worth a change out first as said above. A lot less messing about. In my experience the G60 head gasket blows in a big way.

Best way to tell if the head gasket is going is to do a compression test. A garage wont charge you much for this, alternetivly buy a compression tester and do it yourself, they cost about 15 quid.

I would recommend doing this before you shell out on parts.

Not a complete test of it's integrity. Also, you can do a 'sniff' test of the coolant for combustion products.
