Vag com query

Recommended Posts

Right have managed to get the lead working  and have just completed a scan which lasted about 30's..is that right? Anyway the engine had no faults found (or dtc's not supported by controller or a communiction error ocurred) ...how do you tell? (sounded like a relay was clicking on and off).

Came to the abs and say's excessive comm errors then a box apears with sorry this function requires Vag-com to be registered. .. pretty straight forword need to register I guess.

Anyway how long should it take for the engine scan?

The scan method is long winded and meant for VAG cars with many ECU's, ie. 20+. It saves you having to select each one. Quicker to interrogate the 3 (4 if auto) ECU's on the N reg C.

Control Modules Selection available: Engine ECU (01), ABS ECU (03) & Immobiliser (25) (+Auto (02) if auto gear box is fitted).

Enter each and when communicating, press fault codes (02) to look at the list of codes if present.

Until registered you will have several frustrating restrictions on what you can see & do.......

I've not had a problem with it not being registered, keeps popping up saying "You must register", but still gives you all the fault codes etc.

30s sounds like a long time, and this "excessive comms errors" message sounds worrying. I'd say it takes about 2-5s to do a full scan on mine, definitely less than 10. As RW1 says it's better to scan each ECU individually on the VR, but I'd say there was a problem with your lead as well.
