Anti-roll bar turns into roll bar

Had a quick look on the search and didn't find anything definitive.

 

Has anyone ever actually snapped their anti-roll bar? Garage reckon my clonking going round corners / through Devon sized pot-holes was due to a broken front anti-roll bar. Apparently it was 'coinciding' with the drive shaft, so my last 1500 miles were at a fairly high risk.

 

Surely it's pretty thick - about 25mm?

 

Thoughts?

Alright Pauli! - Has the bar actually snapped or just one of the drop links??

 

Not heard of a bar snapping but I was looking at the original one on the TDi the other day thinking it may do if I leave it rusting any longer...

I've seen the links snap. never the bar.

 

It's spring steel, it's take some force to snap it.

Well that's what I thought - it must have been some torque / shear to snap it. I'll see if I can get hold of the broken part tomorrow. They're a pretty good garage but maybe don't always communicate as well as they could, so maybe they meant the links...
