PhilsLadyC 0 Posted February 3, 2003 Hey chaps. Anyone know a good paint or primer to use on plastic? Any other tips on spraying plastic would be appreciated. Cheers
CazzaVR 0 Posted February 3, 2003 Did the eyebrow spoiler on my G60 with Halfords plastic primer. Rubbed the plastic down with wet and dry paper (800 I think) first, then several coats of primer. Rubbed that down with more wet and dry, before applying several thin coats of VW paint. First coat was sprayed horizontally, second vertically etc. Then VW clear coat to finish. Did the job and looked thoroughly proffessional if I do say so myself! Hope this helps!
PhilsLadyC 0 Posted February 3, 2003 Cool. Thanks. I'll be off to Halfords later :) One thing. I always manage to remove half the paint when using wet n dry. What's the secret? How long do you leave the paint to dry before using wet n dry? Cheers
CazzaVR 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Sorry mate, didn't see your reply! This is probably too late now... Make sure it's completely dry - an hour or two should be OK. Go easy on the wet sanding too, 'cos as you say you can end up removing most of the paint! I only wet sanded after the first coat, then just dry after that and it worked really well. :)
PhilsLadyC 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Thanks Andy. Been perfecting my technique a bit actually and also found a good tip. If you put a bit of washing liquid in the water when wet sanding it reduces the abrasiveness and also stops the paper clogging. Gives a much smoother result IMO. CazzaVR 0 Posted February 22, 2003 Never heard of that one! I'll give it a go next time I do any painting. Cheers.
JohnJ 0 Posted February 25, 2003 & did you know that many professional auto paint stores will make up an aerosol to your code and tone? Cheaper and better quality than the 'touch up' stuff sold in the accessory shops!
