Power steering pump...

Recommended Posts

Just aquired a G60 and absolutely loving it. A few things need tweeking on it including, I think, the power steering pump. The steering is very noisy and is heavier than I think is should be. Is the pump the same as the golf? Any ideas where I can pick one up from?

I think the G60 pump has a specific angle to the outlet/inlet connection to the hoses, although the basic pump is the same as many mk2/3 golfs and passats, if you find a SEAT or VW pump which looks like it will fit the hoses OK just watch out for the 2 common lengths of shaft from the pump body to pulley, this varies depending on if a car uses a V belt or serpentine belt for the alternator.

Hi Matt,

I have had my G60 since June now and still loving it! However I have also noticed that the steering is a lot heaver than my Golf 16v I just put it down to the fact that the Corrado weighs about the same as the deathstar! (not kidding just wait till it breaks down and you have to push the fecker!)

Does anyone else with a G60 C think the steering is a little heavy?

Dan

To be honest, the weightiness of the steering isn't bothering me at all. Its just the noise. It's loud at all ranges, not just full lock, and sounds like it could start doing some damage at some point if it hasn't already. Is there anything else it could be or is the pump a pretty safe bet?

Ah I see sorry, got the wrong end of the stick there! Not meaning to take the pi** here but have you checked the obvious things, PAS fluid level? Also check the pump outlet as when I picked mine up some fuck**g muppet had put it on arse about face and there was a 90 degree kink in the rubber hose where they had tye wrapped it to the underside of the bumper!!

The fluid was low when I got the car but I topped it up straight away. Didn't make any difference though. haven't really had time to properly look at it and trace the steering system but will hopefully get a chance this week. Got a couple of things to go on now. Cheers.
