Recommended Posts

Hi

Someone recommended the forum as you guys know your stuff.

Can anyone help, Ive had my valver for a couple of months and its suddenly died. (1993 2.0 16v)

Ive replaced the dizzy cap rotor atm leads and plusg, Ive tested the feed to the dizzy and thats fine, but its still not firing up??? Its trying but the spark just isnt there.

Can you recommend what else I can test or any ideas what the problem is???

Thanks in advance for any help

Probably the hall sender inside the dizzy. It can be replaced, or you can buy a new dizzy.

Where are you? someone might be able to lend you one so you can test that it is the problem.

To be honest, a second hand one *could* pack up again pretty soon. Your original one has lasted 13 years.... I'd try a new one, or putting a new hall sender in it.

Search for hall AND sender for more information

remember to put the AND in (in capitals too)

Check the plug and the three wires running to the distributor. check the coil too, that could have broken down. I suppose it could be the immobiliser, if that's hooked up to the coil.

The car has not got an immobilizer, Ive had my electrical tester on the coil, thats fine and the three wires coming into the dizzy, two show earth and one shows live?

Ive looked through the receipts I got with the car and the ignition barrel by the steering was changed in 2004.

ANy other suggestions guys?

Thanks so far.

I think the three wires should be earth, trigger wire to the ignition and feed to the rev counter. but I could be wrong.

without sounding too stupid, where do you mean by ignition switch??

Where is it based? as I said earlier the ignition barrel has been changed.

Thanks for the posts though

the ignition barrel is what you put your key in the switch is behind that and the contacts can corrade over time so the car will not start

do a search for "ignition AND switch"

Thanks is there any way of testing it before I buy one???

Would it still crank if the switch has gone??

There is no delay in turning the key and the engine attempting to start???
