Philj 0 Posted January 26, 2007 How do you bleed the coolant system on a 16v engine? I keep getting coolant arseache, with the light flashin etc, top it up, and its good for a few miles, then starts again. There doesnt seem to ba ny pressure in the system. Im guessing theres a huge airlock in it, especially since Ive just been topping it up with more water. So going to try bleeding it first, then maybe do a full coolant flush. A1 VR6 0 Posted January 26, 2007 If you had an air lock you should have pressure as the air in the air lock when hot would expand causing pressure in the system. To bleed leave the engine running with the cap off and your heater control set to hot. Should do the trick but if I was you I'd consider changing the cap which could be knackered or checking the expansion tank for a split which may only leak under pressure when hot.
