Really bad misfire 16v

Recommended Posts

Driving back from work the other day, my car had just come off the motor way and I stopped to get some cash from the cash point. After starting the car I noticed while driving the power had become really flat and lacked power. I stopped the car for a couple of minutes and after restarting it began to idle rougher. As soon as I pressed on the accelerator pedal there was loud "Banging" from the engine and so I pulled over and called the AA. After checking the coil, leads,plugs,dizzy etc he could not find a fault with any of it. He said that there was a small amount of oil inside the dizzy and that maybe the dizzy was leaking.The wiring loom around the dizzy area was oily. After looking into the dizzy It appeared to be bone dry and he said that there was "some electronics" behind the dizzy that may be filled with oil. After getting my car home I removed the dizzy the next day and to my surprise there is no "electronics " behind it and no evidence of oil leaking. The only bit of electronics is what appears to be some kind of sensor (Hall effect maybe) with three terminals on the other end.

Does this sound like a Faulty dizzy?

Could a bit of oil on the loom cause this?

Anybody have any Ideas?

Thx

I had the same sort of problem with mine and it turned out to be the dizzy the oil seal behind it gose the oil leaks throw the dizzy and the wires in side go brittle and crack causing a miss fire and if u leave it long enoth thay snap the u lose all power and the wont even start :( Hope this helps u and u get it sorted.

I have just performed a compression test and this is what I get on the Cylinders (Number 1 being the Alternator end)

1= 14.5 bar

2= 13.5 bar

3= 4.5 bar

4= 4.5 bar

When testing 3 and 4 a strange loud hollowish sort of "Sucking" sound can be heard. I know this is not good. Can someone please tell me how bad this is or what could be causing it. Is my car FUBAR?

The car still starts and runs although extremely badly.
