Squeaky Steering when parking

does every corrado do this? when you parking or turning at low speeds the car sounds like a ginuea (sp) pig.

i asked chap i bought car from about it on the test drive and he said it had done it since he did topmounts?

Or is it the power steering?

When I had the 8v checked out the mechanic said he had tightened something to do with the PS which should reduce the squeek.

 

But hey, I really havn't a clue. No doubt someone in the know will be along soon!!!!

Mine was fine when i bought it but started squeeking recently (after about 3000 miles) i've got no idea what it is though, also hoping somebody is more in the know about it than i am!

That sounds like Josh Wink.

 

Check your p/s pump belt, fluid level, but it almost sounds like a steering column component. try altering the steering wheel angle and try again.

also check the steering column joint near the floor.

i'll get in the footwell at weekend then and looks for bolts to tighten

 

some belt makes a kinda screech/whirring sound when you start ignition, just for a second after engine kicks into life

That could be the PAS or the alternator belt...

 

Nip them both up this weekend and see if it helps.

 

To be honest there won't be anything to tighten, it'll probably be something that's a bit worn... and needs a bit of oil.

i don't know what i'm looking at when i open bonnet :lol:

It could be the wires behind the steering wheel, the coil of wire that allows the wheel to turn and the wires not get twisted (i can't remember the name of it now...) or a wire brushing on trim as the steering wheel rotates.

 

On my golf i sprayed some dry lube (i think- can't really remember if it was that or something along the lines of wd40) and it quietened down.
