Heater

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody

Only had about 15% warmth from heater, so yesterday had the heater bypass valve replaced at the recommendation of a garage I use. Now there's NO heat at all, just cold air, and the garage now says it must be a blocked heater matrix! :?

Cheers

Hi

When they worked on your car, they could have introduced an air lock.

bypass valve?

Im sure someone will correct me, but it sounds to me like the garage advised you to bypass the matrix itself, thus no hot air?

Hi

No, the bypass valve was already there.I

Hi

I didn't know that was a possibility, thanks. But how would you test for that?

Though I've got an awful feeling it might be more than that. Still, I haven't had the

classic footwell full of water that indicates the matrix has gone...?

Hi

Put up a picture, a birds eye view of the more to the right side of the engine.

Turn the engine on and as the water warms up massage the water hoses.

The matrix could be leaking internally into the box - any loss or smell of coolant in the cabin??

If the valve detects a leak it will shut, thats what they are there for - I would be tempted to by-pass then for now just for testing...

If you take off the ducting from the blower motor to the mixer box you can get your hand on the matrix.

If it is heating up but you're getting no/little warm air it may be like mine was, simply 3/4 blocked with dust/fluff/sh1te etc.

The air was all going through the unblocked 1/4, thus cooling it fairly quickly even with the fan on 1.

Changed the matrix and it's all toasty now :shades:
