Bore in a 4 cyl block?

Recommended Posts

How long do you want it to last? :?

Most tuning companies tend to say that around 83mm is the best compromise on a 1.8 short block as it retains enough "meat" around the cylinders so that they won't crack too easily. You can go bigger, but you start making the cylinder walls weaker and most people won't then guarantee how long the block will last...

Have a word with some of the guys on here about re-bores... I spoke to both John (16VG60) and Darren (G-man) about building my new bottom end (oo-err!) when I was researching it as both seem to offer a pretty good package for reasonable money... There's plenty of other companies that do rebores as well such as C&R enterprises, stealth and TSR, but not many do too much with the PG block (1.8 G60) so it all depends on if yours is a G60 or a KR 1.8 16V... 8)

Hope this helps... 8)

when u mean short block are you talking about a 1.8 16v? 2L 16v or 1.8 g60?

From what i know for the 16v engines its 83mm-85mm pistons but its not really worth it

im personally running 83mm vw motorsport pistons

Thanks Guys, i am trying to work out if i can use pistons that are 84.5 in a kr 16v block (1.8, not the 2L long block)

@Henny, what sort of power are you putting out?

At the moment the car's putting out a WHOPPING 0BHP and 0Lb/ft torque... I only picked the block up on Sunday, so it's sat in my garage waiting for me to build it!

I have no idea what she'll be pulling when she's finished, but I know that she'll be a very torquey little lump! 8)
