MOT Pre test results...

I just got a phone call from local garage about the parts corroded/wrong with my car the parts i can remember are as follows:

 

Both rear axle bushes (split or corroded can't remember what she said)

Fuel filter corroded

Front brake hoses corroded (maybe rear as well)

Front gasket leak (i think that's what she said)

Front discs & pads

Front o/side caliper seized

Front & rear brake compensators..

 

Can someone give me a clue of how much this will set me back if i did it myself?

 

(Put in drivetrain because most is drivetrain)

rear bushes around £30 pounds half a days work

fuel filter 10.00 20 minutes

pipe work 10-20 2hrs

disc and pads 3hrs

caliper do the same time as pads ect 60

 

so around 200 uk pounds not to bad for another yrs motoring

Could try phoning VW for some quotes for parts, for thier Servicing dept. But from memory prices from GSF about 4 years ago were: 1. expensive considering labour, 2. see Wiki for How to, cost £15, 3. normal hoses circa £40, 4. ?, 5. Discs £60, pads £40 for pairs on front, 6. Re-con caliper circa £60, 7. £? Thats starting at £200 just to do the brakes, let alone the axle bushes and fuel filter. And assuming you've the tools.

 

But yes, quite normal work for a Corrado.

half of that stuff isnt a mot fail though...might want to find a more honest garage

 

leaky gasket dont matter , and niether does a rusty fuel filter unless its leaking

Yea it's more peace of mind, plus if i get most of it done car should be sorted for a couple of years picked the car up couple of weeks ago and here's the definitive list:

 

OSF caliper seized upgrading to vr6 calipers

Front discs + pads g60 discs

Sump gasket leaking

[strike:2e5zbyod]Rocker cover gasket leaking[/strike:2e5zbyod]

Front to rear brake pipe corroded

N/s to O/s Rear B/pipe corroded

[strike:2e5zbyod]Brake compensator seized[/strike:2e5zbyod] (chiller1)

Brake hose at reservoir chaffed through ? is this just meaning the cotton is fraying?

Both rear axle bushes split

Both rear wheel bearings

Fuel filter corroded

Fuel pipes to filter corroded

Fuel regulator corroded

Rear brake bads

N/s/f abs sensor insecure

Hole in floor near nsf sill

N/s/f ball joint bolt loose

Exhaust manifold cracked

 

anyone who's got a 9a exhaust manifold and a fuel reg drop me a pm please!

Let us know if you get stuck; most of that is doable DIY. (see Forum wiki and Haynes for Passat if its teh 9A)

Yes hose is displaying its innards - get new one.

Sounds like you'll become on first name basis with your local VAG then. :)
