exhaust blowing... EDIT: stainless manifold query

Recommended Posts

yeah i know that feeling, gets even better with the manifold to head ones. i seem to think there was 6 on the flexi on mine maybe 8v is different.

good luck to your mechanic :lol:

oh I don't know if it was either 4 or 6 or 8, I just tried with one and I gave it up :D

well now, I'll see tomorrow ...

thanks :)

I bought myself a tool kit for christmas :norty: :norty:

could anyone say if the manifold posted (the picture) in the first post would fit a kr? or is it 9a specific? as kr has no cat, shouldn't it be "longer" to reach the middle silencer box???

16v are the same, i believe, the position of the stud alters between 8/16valve.

Should come with a triangle fitting on the end of it so you can fit a cat/cat bypass on

I think it won't fit kr pre-silencer, wont't it? Exhaust manifold and downpipe differs from 9a to kr in this pic.

Looking on my phone so hard to tell, but they just look like down pipes, one with cat one with a silencer box.

You just fit a cat bypass pipe to join the rest of the exhaust. I only have a centre and backbox on mine. Good flow

ok, stainless exhaust manifold will fit both kr and 9a, so the one you have in the pic on page 1 is correct.

the down pipes are;

top one = downpipe before a cat was needed (pre 92 i think)

second one = down pipe made for cat (92 onwards)

stainless mani's have the traingle fitting for a cat as standard.

you would just bolt on a cat bypass to make up for the gap where the cat/silencer box was/should be

hope that makes sense

hey, it sounds clear, thanks.

so I would have tu buy a cat bypass .. and it is more money to spend..

in addition to this, the first silencer would be deleted and I'd not like the car to be louder than it is now..

I'll try to find an oem manifold...

thanks!!!!!!!!

yes but an oem one will cost about &40, while an inox one will cost 150++ or more including the bypass.. and it won't have the flexible section and I'll have to replace exhaust hanging rubbers every month :lol:

Hard to tell the length of the pipe, but if it fell short id assume you could,

Chop the existing down pipe so it still has the silincer box, join with an exhaust sleeve.

Or take it to an exhuast place and they will make you the missing piece. Shouldnt cost alot.

not sure about abf, that was the tall block i think.

pretty sure they are on different part numbers. might find the join to the downpipe doesnt match up.

I have bought the first section only, it is, the 4-2. I'll use my downpipe actually. iirc kr exhaust manifold (4-2 section) was the same for 9a, kr and abf

kr/9a = 027253031BH, same as rhd abf

abf = 037253031BK (lhd)

im assuming you will have lhd over there

I'm getting a 2nd hand one at a price of 30€. the chap who sells it to me says it has little rust (mine is a piece of rust with a little of metal :lol: ).

I have found in vagcat.com that abf manifold is the same as rhd kr, strange isn't it? Well I'll know soon :lol:

spent 2.5 hours this morning removing the kr exhaust manifold. all nuts were rusted and almost welded to the manifold due to the rust accumulation.

After lunch, I tried to fit the abf manifold but it is A LOT bigger than the kr so it did'nt fit :| so spent 2 + hours fitting the kr one in place :nuts: :nuts: :nuts:
