TVR Cerbera

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any experience of living with a TVR?

May be getting a Cerbera just not sure how much time it'll spend with me vs time spent with my local mechanic...

Any info appreciated...

I looked into getting a Tuscan or T350 a little while ago and can't offer any first hand experience of the Cerbera.

However, one thing I would suggest is that you can make some very good savings by purchasing privately but as long as you make sure you add a few grand to your budget and let it sit in a bank account for emergencies. I'd rather have the money sat in a bank account than in the dealer's pocket.

Or purchase from a main dealer and that the warranty covers everything under the sun.

Yeah sort of what I was seeing from my searching...

Only thing is if I get the TVR then it will have to be as a replacement to the Corrado... Not sure I'm ready to let the C go yet...

Know someone with a Griff, and he reckons it doesn't cost too much maintenance wise. He's found a very good local specialist. He's told me what he's had to have done over the last 2-3 years, and it doesn't really seem to be that much more costly than keeping a Corrado going. My only concern would be with body parts etc that are TVR specific and would be very expensive. That said, also know someone who had one and the engine blew up and cost loads to get sorted. Also insurance and fuel are obviously gonna be higher.

The TVR community is great- they have a fantstic club (expensive at around £45 a year), but it's worth it. The magazine is like a car mag you'd buy from WHSmiths! They're a friendly bunch.

I'd go with what Tom said and just make sure you have a decent amount of money set aside just in case.

They're brilliant cars!

I would say don't expect the Cerb to be used as a daily driver. If you want that go for a Rover V8 based Chimaera or Griffith.

Cerbera's are great cars but the AJP or even worse the Speed Six isn't very reliable.

Not sure about the Cerbera but my uncle just got rid of his Tuscan Speed Six and as great as it was to drive IN THE DRY ONLY, it constantly had something wrong with it. Essentially it is a road legal race car and needed to be maintained like one.

The Cerbera was generally acknowledged to be very reliable - apart from the engine on Speed Six models

I know a few people with Cerberas, Tuscans and T350's - generally it seems to be that the more they are used the more reliable they are. A friend of mine has the ex-Devad Beckham lightweight Cerbera and its been pretty much 100% reliable in the four years he has owned it

Probably woirth speaking to someone like David Gerald sportscars to get a specialists view

Tempted to go for a chim myself but not sure I could justify using it as a daily. Going from a tdi passat estate to a 4/4.5/5 litre V8 might increase my fuel bill a tad.

2 of my friends had Chimeras and had very few (if any) issues with them. One of them was going to trade up to a Cerb but bought a house instead and just got rid of the TVR completely.
