Full new exhaust system or part replace?

looking to correct the now quite bad rasping noise from my exhaust. Can someone outline the benefits, if any, of getting a full new exhaust system or just replacing the faulty section, bar the cost issue.

From a engine health wise perspective. How much healthier for the car IS a new system as opposed to 'patch'n'go' with the old one?
