G60 TEMP GAUGE NOT WORKING BUT LCD TEMP WORKS.??HELP

Recommended Posts

Hi, I just got my 1990 G60, Already replaced the passenger Axle which broke and had to tow, and fixed an Idle/hesitation problem.

Now I'm trying to fix the temperature gauge problem. The Needle does NOT move at all, I opened the Cluster and made sure the needle was plugged in but still no luck. The odd thing is that the LCD Temperature display works.

Also noticed that the Red temp light blinks once in a while usually soon after starting her up.

I just checked the coolant level and its right below min :brickwall: Will replace coolant before driving again.

What could be causing the problem?.Temp Sensor?..Also how can I tell if the Cluster is the original one?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, the digital display shows the oil temp, the gauge is water...

I'd top the coolant up first but the sender for this is the black one on the front of the cylinder head and the blue one is also water temp but for the ECU.

I would replace both of these as a matter of course but you can test the needle gauge works by bridging the black plug and also compare both senders with a multi-meter reading resistance across the pins - the black one will probably be open circuit.
