Engine rattle!

Recommended Posts

Hello once again,

has anybody had or has heard of KR 1.8 16v engines rattling from the bottom end around 4000rpms?

I had the same issue with my old engine which eventually gave up. It sounds like oil starvation, also sounds like the shells are rattling. Do these engines have any known bottom end issues? Oil pump problems etc. If the engine goes again that's me and corrados finished and I really really don't want that to happen. Please any help would bf appriciated! Maybe even a corrado specialist based near Manchester.

Thanks again

are you sure its bottom end? make sure its not the exhaust rattling or resonating.maybe something on the drivetrain, gearbox or wheels? If your bottom end is wondering youll feel it most under load and throughout the whole rpm range.

What mileage has the engine done? KR dont really suffer probs with bottom end as its same engine in the mk2 GTI 16v

Any engine will suffer bottom problems if its been ragged all its life

Are you sure you didnt just get another dud engine?

I dont think i got a dud, its been fine. Drove it to work this morning and took it to 4 rpm in 4th, no rattle what so ever, i can only pressume its bottom end as my last engine had new head gasket up, replaced everything, valves, timing belt, all gaskets the whole lot, then 4 weeks later bang, so i can only relate it to that. The engine i have put in has only done 95,000, runs sweet. Maybe i miss heard the noise with all the road noise and rain. Only happens when under load around 4000RPM. I'll try it again tonight.

Cheers

Kr engines are nails, rare they blow unless theyre not looked after or timing belt isnt changed

def dosent sound like its your bottom end,it would be like that across entire rev range, not just 4k

these cars do make funny noises now and again.

mine makes a clunk when i start to move in reverse, just one clunk and cant find any probs with mine

Got the car on a ramp in my dinner hour, one of the techs had a listen and thought it might be cam chai. He ran the car up to temp, put in some engine flush and then drianed the oil, brand new oil and filter. Took the car for a run and it is sweet as a nut. Better performance, better fuel economy and no rattles. Good times.

Thanks for the help offhisrocker.

Cheers

Mark
