Sunroof leak - new seal fitted

Recommended Posts

I have a few sunroof problems

I got my car re-sprayed last year and got most of the seals replaced at the same time - not cheap but worth it...or so I thought!!!

I noticed when I got it back that the sunroof didn't sound great when I opened it and instead of greasing I didn't use it at all until a few weeks ago and it was intermittent but thankfully I closed it.

I took the car for a drive yesterday following a few days of torrential rain and as I drove off my head got wet.

I have spent a good while searching the forum and eventually took the sunroof motor off and tried to operate it - just got a click and no movement therefore thought motor done and can't have been closing roof properly?

I then opened the roof manually and shut it however the seal didn't look like it would be waterproof at all and got a jug of water to test it and I got a wet head again? The roof never leaked before the new seal was fitted I wonder if I could have bought the wrong seal for an older car (my car is 1995)?

I also wonder if the new seal should be silconed onto the roof - it has just been pushed on currently?

Also when I put the motor back in place it did open the roof then started to slow and stop on the closing run - it was a bit stiff with the alan key. I closed it with the motor by pressing the switch but would cut out every second.

I am happy to sort grease and possible motor thanks to Rpmayne for his post and Timdoc advice however more concerned about the rain getting in.

ps - guttering drains are perfect - I could see water dripping through the seal.
