Tattie 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Hi folks, just had my MOT done at 'Andrew Robinson Audi-Volkswagen' just off the Tritton Road in Lincoln. An independant Audi/VW trained technician. 'Specialist in ABS, Engine Management, Engines, Gearboxes and Electrics' Moorland Way Workshop, Tritton Road, Lincoln LN6 7JW . Tel 01522 509800 Knows his stuff and seems reasonably cheap too. The GF has been using him for a while. He said my motor was in good nick apart from the minor items below - is it worth putting him in the sticky for good servicing places? Idle is hunting a very small amount (just started), rear axle bushes are on there way out (Got quoted £70 for the labour on those as its a pig of a job) but not a failure yet!, rear brake bias valve needs a little TLC i.e. de-rusting. Incidently it easily passed the emissions test with a de-cat exhaust. Is it worth uprating the rear axle bushes or sticking with OE ones? There seems to be 2 schools of thought on that one. Is it worth completely replacing the rear bias valve? If so any idea on cost? The shopping list for inters seems to get larger and larger! LOL
Geo 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Rear bias valve needs to be unbolted from the axle when the axle bushes are being done. However the bolts are usually seized to it has to be cut off so you'll probably need to get a new one then anyway. I think they are £40 or thereabouts but I'm not sure. I'd stick with oe rear axle bushes as these are the only ones that will give you passive rear wheel steering like VW intended the C to have. I think the poly ones have some refinement issues as well. re the idle hunting did you/he try cleaning the isv valve? It could solve the problem for you. Tattie 0 Posted May 4, 2004 Nah, haven't cleaned the ISV yet. Its only varying about 50 RPM at the mo, just gently hunting. Been doing it for about a week. I'll wait until after inters to give it a clean though. Cheers for the info on the bias valve.
