captainredeye 0 Posted May 4, 2015 Need a new alternator for the vr have seen cheaper ones for £70 producing 70amps or for £150 120 amps does 70amp effect battery life or cause any running issues?
sankysvr6 0 Posted May 6, 2015 I would stick with the correct rated amp alternator for the car. If you want to save some money, why not have ago at rebuilding the original one. Loads of guides on the internet.
Jim 2 Posted May 6, 2015 Get the highest output you can afford. 70AMP will suffice but you'll find in the winter months, if you use your car, it'll struggle to maintain a fully charged healthy battery if you've got all the electrical accessories on, and (for example) the stereo, etc.
GreenRado 10 Posted May 7, 2015 Just upgraded to a 120amp in my VR. Like Jim said, it helps when the battery is under heavy load. If you want to fork out, VW Heritage do Special order 120amp for £210.
stuarttaylor37 13 Posted May 7, 2015 Are there any disadvantages to fitting a 120Amp alternator?
captainredeye 0 Posted May 7, 2015 From what I can find the higher amp ones are a little bigger, weighed it up and I'm going for the 120 as that was what my old one was.
