Central locking fault..... module?

After nearly 5 years of owning my Corrado I am finally able to start fixing the niggles.

 

When I bought it the previous owner said the drivers side central locking didn't work and the drivers handle sometimes didn't lock at all. However, none of the central locking has ever worked for me.

 

I have stripped the drivers side door cards and interior plus :

 

- Visually checked for any wire perishing or loose connections - can't find any unless it's under the wrap.

- checked for any vacuum pipe splits -can't find any

- disconnected and reconnected the pump - when the loom was plugged back in the first time it made the pumping noise for a few seconds then stopped. It hasn't done it again on reconnecting.

- sucked and blew on the vacuum pipes - I can hear a slight open / close noise from the doors. The first time I did this the pump kicked in for quite a few seconds and then stopped. This resulted in my fuel cap being locked but nothing else. The pump has not done this again on further ducking or blowing.

 

My electric windows are still working so I assume it's not the fuse.

 

I have a sparky friend coming over in a few weeks to test the wiring and connections for me but is there anything else I can try in the meantime? Could it be the module even if the windows are working?

Hi mate.

 

Had simalar problems with mine initially but its quite a straight forward system really to fault find on.

 

If the pump runs in the boot when you plug it in then it's likely this is Ok although it could be an intermittent problem with the pump causing the issue so if you can get hold of a replacement pump and try it that might be an idea.

 

The door handles have switches in them which the key operates to tell the pump to operate. Are these all plugged in and more importantly working? Does the boot lock??

 

I don't think it would be an air leak or a door actuator problem as the boot pump would run constantly if there was an air leak (think it times out after a certain period if the pump runs for too long)

 

I had an actuator problem in the drivers door where the diapram had slit inside which caused an air leak so the doors wouldent lock, as I'm writing this I remember the actuator has a multi plug electrical connection connected of which this must be so it knows if it's in the locked or un-locked position as it's not a pump it's self so why would it need wiring otherwise, perhaps this part of the actuator in either the drivers or passenger door is not working?

 

As the fuel cap locked I think it sounds like something's un-plugged in one of the doors as why would the fuel cap lock otherwise?

 

Make sure the door actuators in both front doors are plugged in as well as the door handle switches.
