  1. Thanks for that. If I fit a 68mm pulley will I need a chip aswell?
  2. As far as I know I'm running on a standard pulley, but I was told that anything under 1600 indicated a problem. If I'm running at 7psi now, what would I get 1. After a standard rebuild 2. After a stage 4 rebuild 3. With a smaller pulley and chip? Thanks Chris
  3. Thanks, I just tried that and got a max reading of 1540, not good apparently, I guess it's time for a rebuild. :(

    boost pressure

I know theres a way to show the boost pressure on the multi function computer but I can't find out how. Can anyone enlighten me please?
  5. nice 1, I'll go and try that :) . I really should get a manual but the price seems ridiculous.
  6. Can someone please tell me the firing order for the g60, just replaced engine and cant get it to run right :?
  7. :D Nice one, that did the trick, thanks. Nearly there now.
  8. Am changing the cam belt on the g60 but can't work out the timing marks especially on the top pully where there are 3 different marks, please help as my c has been off the road for ages and I want it back.
  9. :D Nice one, top bloke :thumb right: You can restassured that if diy turns out to be a bad idea the postman will be delivering my charger to you. For now I'll go and do some more research
  10. Thanks, but to be honest that doesn't mean an awfull lot to me :? , my old man is the mechanic, I have a go at a lot of jobs but often end up phoning him to help me finish them off (I wont touch the charger myself). I have had a quote from you for a rebuild before and whilst it was certainlly the cheapest around (+ I've heard nothing but possitive things about your work) it's just out of my budget right now. Basically I'd like to know the potential problems and pit-falls of a diy rebuild, although I feel it's a bit unfair asking you as you dont want to do yourself out of work and start everyone off trying to do it themselves :D
  11. My g-ladder hasn't been touched for 150,000 miles so I think the time has come for a rebuild :( . I'm not on great terms with my bank manager at the moment so I've been looking into diy rebuilds. I have found a few sites on the net which claim that a rebuild is childsplay for anyone with engineering experience, a phrase which fits my old man (he's never touched a supercharger but has been a mechanic/engineer for 40 odd years). So what do you people think? Is it a job worth doing yourself or best left to the experts? If it is worth contemplating as a DIY could anyone give me any info on porting - up to stage 4 if poss, what's involved, can you diy and if so how? Finally, I've been reading a few things about buying all the rebuild parts direct from bearing manufacturers and such like rather that through VAG and as such saving an absolute fortune - any comments? Thanks in advance Chris
  12. Well I got to 154,500 and it all went wrong, melted a piston and killed the big end bearings too. Just bought a 78,000 engine to go in, fingers crossed I'll get a good few years out off this one.

    FIRE!!!!

:D Nice one, I can put off shelling out 85 quid for a manual again, guess I'll have to invest soon though. I've got a day off tomorrow so weather permitting I'll give it a go then. Will let you know how I get on.

    FIRE!!!!

I'm in Aberystwyth, on the coast. Any chance you could give me a quick run through taking the head off as I have no manual, dont know what order to undo bolts etc. Thanks

    FIRE!!!!

Shes dead. The pipe that burst turned out to be just the oil breather pipe, so obviouslly oil shouldnt have poured out, must have been under compression, car is now misfiring and smokeier than an Amsterdam coffee shop. So I did a compression test and found that theres absolutley no compression in 1 of the cylinders. So it looks like I've melted a hole in the piston, as if that wasn't enough I've now found out that my big end bearings are on their way out  So it looks like time for a new engine, I havn't got the money to get mine rebuilt. A mate of mine has offered me one which he got from a breakers but didnt need, it's apparently done 78,000 miles and he wants £400 for it (although may do a deal with my stereo) it's got 2months of the 3 month warrenty left, do you people think this sounds a good deal (bare in mind I live in West Wales so any other engine I buy will have to be couriered thus adding even more to the price. Suggestions gratefully recieved Chris

    FIRE!!!!

Yes, full respect to the corsa bloke, I for one won't tar them all with the same brush from now on. My gf towed it back for me, I had to start it to help her up the hills and at junctions due to a combination of being towed by a 1400 astra and dodgy tow rope which snapped no less than 5 times on the way (was an awful lot shorter by the time we got home). Anyway now that I've looked at it in daylight I can see that the pipe that runs from the charger (directly opposite the air intake) has split on the short section that comes off the main pipe and into the top of the engine. This had emptied almost all my oil all over the engine and of course the oil that landed on the manifold ignited. Can't see any real fire damage, think I caught it in time, but I still have two worries. 1- Despite the whole engine being covered in oil there seems to be an excesive amount around the head-gasket -sh*t 2- When I turned the engine off there smoke was still coming out of the exhaust (have noticed this before) doesn't this sound like it's burning oil in the engine rather than just on it? Anyway have now blagged a 998cc mini that my gf bought while her astra was off the road, drove it today, HELP I need my c back before I lose all interest in driving. Chris

    FIRE!!!!

Thanks both, yeah I guess it could have been a lot worse but I,m still dreading the repair bill. I'll tell you, it's quite sureal watching your engine ignite, you see it all the time on films and stuff but it's quite different when it's your own car.

    FIRE!!!!

  My G60 has just caught fire, damn good job I've got a water leak as it ment I had a bottle of water in the car which I threw all over the engine. I thought it wasn't behaving all day, seemed sluggish at low revs and then on my way home it started smelling of burning oil. On coming to a long straight bit of road I foolishly put my foot down, passed a Corsa to get home quick, smell got stronger at when I checked my mirror at the next roundabout the road was filled with smoke. I pulled over, opened the bonnet which had smoke billowing out and the engine burst into flames at the back below the fuel rail. The bloke in the Corsa then came screaching to a halt saying he'd been trying to catch me cos smoke had been billowing out of my car, top bloke gave me a lift home. Anyway have now towed it home, it's dark and I've got no torch so all that I can see is that the engine is covered in oil, anyone got any ideas what could have happened before I build up the courage to look at it in daylight?
  19. I want an induction kit for my 91 g60, which (reasonably priced ones) would you people recommend? Untill I get 1 is it worth drilling the air box and if so where & how much? ta Chris
  20. :D :D :D Excellent, so I can just take the heads of the front and rear bolts and they'll push through, nice one bcstudent, you've just saved me a small fortune that garages wanted for doing this. Incidently the local vw stealer asured me that there wasn't enough room to do this and instead a large amount of work with an equally large wad of cash would be required to fix it, lying b**tards.
  21. Out of interest could any1 tell me how easy it would be/ whats involved in supercharging a 2.0 16v C, is it worth doing?
  22. Thats not a bad idea, nice one. I'll give that a go as soon as it stops snowing :thumbleft:
  23. I need to replace my front bumper, got an almost mint one taking up 3/4 of the utility-room floor. So after Henny told me where to find the bolts I went to do the swop but the bolts just spin, the captured nut on the bumper bar must have sheared off. I've asked around but no one seems to know what to do, there isn't enough clearance above the bumper bar to make cutting the heads off the bolts and pushing them through an option and I've been told by a body shop that my only option is to have the chassis cut and then rewelded at an extortionate price. Any advice or suggestions would be most appriciated before I go and empty my wallet Thanks Chris
  24. I'm in Aberystwyth which is a fairly small town and I can think of at least 5 other than mine, 3 g60's, a 16v and a vr6
