Sorry, coolant temp I was talking about but just remembered I'm using MK3 vr6 clocks but I can't see them being much different. I have read some 1.8T people needing the resistor for the gauge to read correct but some don't also. I thought the Vr6 MFA came from the ECU? I have mine unplugged as obviously there is no where to plug it in now.

I had to put a resistor in for mine to read correctly. Will post up the size when I find it. Fishwick, is your MFA working? Where did you connect it up?

Regarding the aux water pump. There is a black/red wire in the T121 plug that runs this from the Mk4/5 ecu. What I did was remove this wire and run it to my MK3 VR6 fan controller aux output. So I'm running a VR6 fan controller for the fans and aux pump to the 4mo engine. All works fine and the aux pump runs for 10mins after ignition off. Fans work on all speeds also. ---------- Post added at 5:26 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:25 PM ---------- Regarding the aux water pump. Alright Ian! Finally got it in then? No idea why your plugs dont fit, did you get the loom and engine together? The engine side should be untouched really, only the ECU and car side to splice in. Have you removed the SAI? If you do you will need to get your ECU adapted to have the codes taken out and also a blanking plate in place of the valve on the back of the engine. I took the wiring out for mine and don't even have any relays in the engine bay. The brown/red near the ECU is the main ECU earth. I had to extend mine slightly to get to a good earth point as there is no earths near the ECU tray.

Mine was fine and I know a few others with them and had no problems, Luck of the draw I guess. Always use new gaskets for them. What's the other option though? Use the standard separate downpipes and customise the rest of it. Lots of money and how good it's your welding?

For the future, The dubpower R32 manifold fits the 2.8 24V just fine. Im not sure if it will fit in a corrado though as mine was in a MK2.

Sorry, I missed a number off the end! The correct number is 036103113A. I will edit the origional post so no one else mixes it up. This is what you are after. http://www.ecstuning.com/Volkswagen-Golf_III--VR6_12v/Engine/Cooling/ES274313/

Not really, No! Limited access so make sure you can remove most stuff out of the way. I gave it a tap on the very edge so it would spin and then try to pull it out just like the youtube videos show. What really happens is the whole plug moves backwards and then you waste an hour with mole grips and a screwdriver trying to turn it and pry it out! Just be carefull when you stick stuff into the hole though. Its the water jacket for the engine and obviously you dont want to drop anything in it or crack it. Edit, Oh putting the new one in is easy. I used a touch of silicone round the edge to stop and leaks and then find a nice socket to fit inside the plug and hammer it in. I got to plugs just to make sure i didnt mess the first one up. It only needs to go flush with the rest of the engine or about 1mm inside like the other plugs if you look around it.

Part number for the core plug is 036103113A, £1.75. This replaces the one on the front if you are moving the aux water pump. Cant quite remember the size of it, 36.5 or 37.5mm rings a bell. If you need any other numbers just shout, I have my VW invoices kept tidy

Hi All Just thought i would put this pic up of my MK2 24V Track car. I got alot of info from this thread and having never done anything like this before i was pleased how it went! Thanks to everyone for the help and info posted! It runs like a dream and sounds awesome!

I have all the MK3 fan controller & Aux pump setup and working at the moment. It looks like i have the loom etc for all the MK4 fan setup so should just be a case of plugging it in. (Never works like that!) Might have to stick with my MK3 VR clocks, I will see how it works now i have all the loom!
-
Thanks for your help. I would still keep my VR6 fancontroller so wouldnt this run the after run pump & fans? I thought these 2 looms were seperate anyway? Its going to be alot of work to get the MK4 clocks working and it is only a track car at the end of the day. The MK4 ones look too good though!

Hi All Im putting a MK4 4Motion engine into my MK2 Golf track car. I have most of this sussed but a couple of questions. The Thermostat housing, Im thinking of using the MK4 clocks but will these work with the VR housing? Or do the MK4 sensors fit the MK3 housing? Reason i ask is there are 3 plugs on the VR one, And only one i can see on my MK4 engine. If i fitted the VR housing will the MK4 sender fit in the front of it? I might just stick with my MK3 clocks so i can use all the senders as they are from the MK3 housing. Would this work? Cheers Mat

Many thanks, Just sent a couple of e-mails. I will let you know how i get on. Cheers Mat :)

For the Oil Pressure? I thought it needed to be VDO or would an Audi one do it? They seem to be even more expensive than a new VDO one.
-
Well my battery is in the boot anyway so it wouldnt be hard to run a cable to it. Just looking for a 5 Bar Twin pole, M10x1 sender now. Seem to be hard to find....Cheap... Thanks again Mat

Ah man, Your a star! Having a quick read of the internet, PN 049 919 563B is the better one to go for. Alot of people cant get the 049 919 563A one working with Audi gauges. I will hopefully order one tomorrow (Along with an audi TT quickshift) for delivery saturday. Last question, And well i only have one other gauge  Is there a suggested place to install the volt gauge or will any 12V & ground do? With it being a track car i dont have alot of loom left, No cig lighter etc. :? Thanks Mat

Gauges have come out of a J reg Audi 90 20V Sport. I dont get them untill next week though so cant get the number quite yet. Cheers Mat

Thats great. So im going to order up a 5 bar, Twin pole pressure sender with a M10x1 Thread. Im going to loose the MFA oil temp for the moment and just use the VDO one so i could use the normal sensor location. Is the thread for the oil temp also M10x1? And What rating do i need? My gauge goes to 170 but as the engine is not quite running yet i dont know what the oil is normally at. I see a couple places that do 120 & 150 Degree Senders. What do you think i would need? Or would the OE VW one work with the VDO? Thanks Mat

That's great, thanks for your help. I think the best idea would be to fit a dual sender and connect both to that. I just hope the dash indication is ok with using a vdo sensor not the VW one, has anyone had a problem with this? Would i need to drain the oil to install these? I'm guessing the pressure one is ok but the sump plug would piss out. There is quite a bit of room in the mk2 bay. I need to take the rad out anyway so will put these in at the same time. Thanks again Mat

So ive just bought a set of gauges from an Audi and now i think the oil pressure gauge might be the wrong one Ive searched for most of tonight and see mixed reports about the 5 bar gauge being too low for a VR6. Can anyone confirm what they are using on a VR6? The most i see on here have a 5 bar fitted! Also what senders should i use? I would like to keep the dash stuff also so is it better to use a twin sender or a single one and a T-Piece? Also same questions for oil temp, Twin sender or replace the sump plug with a sender? Its for me MK2 VR6 but the engine is from a Corrado hence asking here :D Thanks Mat
