TBH its only an extra 100 ish to get the 16v version !!! so might just go with that ! a lot less messing about and no probs about declaring with insurance. Also just found out that in 2-3 months time then insurnace for me on a 16v Jetta will be same as it is now for the 8v NA golf..sweet !!! thats me sorted with a little work on it, slight port and polish, quiet induction kit, and a few bits and bobs

how far can the insurance people see ? i kow they dont dismantly the engine so you woudl get away with ported and polished, but how noticeable is a 2.0 l bottom end ? And thats a very interesting post henny, im going to be looking into that more / thinking about that one seriously !!!

lol, and were talking how much ? say i had around £800 to spend in total would that cover half an engine rebuild ? Tbh i would like to make under the hood look semi decent so new 'shiny' (joke) hoses etc, not sure at all though, would spend it all on performance if need be, theres worse things in life :wink:

The way it was looking was i would be buying a 1991 jetta 1.8 GTi and swap/convert the head. I never realised that 1.8 16v was GTi :oops: So what do you think is possible for the jetta ? or is it just worth buying a GTi 16v Jetta in first place ? ( youre going to say this one are you :wink: ) I know you aint puttin me off, especially after what i have seen you lot do haha And yes it was just head and valves, think i got it in end, so might be selling on here in a few days haha, allthough only cost £25 so not end of world!!

Problem is that all the conversions going on are G60 -> 16v's. I will be trying to do an 8v GTi, which will be a whole different kettle of fish. Ive searched e1k, no-rice, this, and other non forum style pages, any one any more links etc ? dont make me beg !!

No, my car isnt a C, i wish it was !!! its a golf mkii 1.8 carb. If we going to list stuff like 'new light covers' then i would be here all day, im posting serious stuff !! Allthough i like the 2/3 engine mounts !! lol

Understandable, BUT the engine is in a jetta with 80k on the clock ( the one im looking at ) so should be quite good. Is that £150 for a 16v, or a 16v GTi ? cos i would imainge its harder to convert a 16v to 16v GTi, than a GTi to a 16v GTi...if that makes sense. This will be my first attempt at engine work so i dont mind the hours, but if sourcing parts for all of that ( money and time to find them ) is hard then thats another matter. Plus i have allready bid on the part and cant back out, so kinda stuck with it !! lol

FORGIVE ME !!! i know this will be posted in here somewhere, but when i try to search for "16v head conversion" i get over 2000 replies :( Can anyone point me to doing a 16v head conversion to a 1.8 GTi engine ? either on this forum or else where Much appreciated !!!

So that will mean to go for the Xflow option its a new cylinder head ? What else will you need ? im guessing new exhaust manifold, down pipe ( if not linked to exhuast manifold ) and attachments, total cost anyone ? Im guessing this would be one those mods where you dont need a dyno to confirm the extra power ?

Right, before you will all abuse me for this, and i know its bad but the car was only meant to last 3 months, and it has lasted 4.5 so im doing well. But, i think i have the record for the worst condition car out there ( dosent include cars in progress, where engine is 6ft from bay :-P Right : Clutch slips VERY easily Exhaust Manifold -> down pipe rotten so VERY loud Alternator gone so all lights internal and external flciker all the time Heater matrix blown/leaked so heater works when it wants ( i think its heater matrix, i have one puddle at work and one at home, both stained and left a trail, and its not oil/petrol ) Inside fan only works on setting '3' Farside rear door opens but wont shut unless you slam it Nearside fron tyre wobbles above 70mph ( on private land of course :wink: ) Windscreen very slighly cracked ( small enough to almost not see ) BUT MY FAV IS..... The auto choke, for the first 10 mins the car is on full choke, and idles at 3000 -> 3400 rpm, if after 10 mins it hasnt dropped, i have to turn engine off ( and wait for it to stop firing on its own accord ), turn it back on, then try to stall it or blip the throttle. This wakes all the neighbours AND gobbles fuel as you can imagine. Allthough it is kinda funny, cos from the lights it pulls on its own in first second and third, no accelerator needed haha As i said, the car was too bad when i 'inherited' it so it was never meant to be kept going, just a free car for a few months. Can any one beat that ?

Dont think indicators are compulsary regardless of what you have all said, just look at black cabs :wink: -

Want to know why i am loving this thread ? its different and no one has mentioned the good old 'K&N filter' :lol: PS as i being daft or does that peak at 120 not 140 ? Also what are the other two graphs ? other cars/setups ? or figures BHP/temp etc etc

I love the sounds of it, BUT dont trust that milage, its a bit old AND not sure about that milage, would have thought that such a toy would have a few miles. Also South African NOT the german model. Problem is this would be my only car that cant go wrong as im a poor student, so something a bit more realistic as well haha, but trust me i WOULD LOVE to buy it !!!

Gosh thats a lot of smileys !! :D I am willing to put the work in no problem, but money will be a challenge. My budget will be £2000 (my car has about 3-4 weeks then it wont run anymore, it for longer than it was supposed to so...) and im thinking about a jetta with a new/conditioned engine put in (will even consider a g40 or g60 :D doubt i could afford it though !). Also the Jetta is about £800 leaving me over 1g to spend on the gorgeous VW engine :D So... port & polish, gearbox, skimmed head ? higher compression but is that BHP or Torque ? need to read up on toque more tbh. How do you setup the bottom end ? one thing ive never know ! Any URL's appreciated, love to read this stuff !! PS cant wait to see the power curve !!!

Im fed up to be honest with all BHP mods, im not bothered about top speed that much, the speed that bothers me is 20 --> 70. So what are the best torque mods ? i appreciate that by increasing BHP a lot will affect torque, but thats not increasing it propley more of a side affect! So what do people know? top 5 torque mods ?

i will own up from start, its from eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... otohosting but thinking today about a jetta with a G40/60 conversion of some sort. found this and thought it sounds quite nice !! would be a lurvely suprise to all them novas / saxos / clio etc Any thoughts about this or buying a cheap jetta ( with a good body ) and getting an engine sub ? i have read that they suffer on handling but this can basically be cleared up with decent suspension ?

University student studying BSc (and dont forget the HONS ) 'computing' which is a mixture of programming web design and a little hardware. Currently doing my 3rd out in the industry working for a company called Highlander Business Solutions in Sheffield as a bench engineer, building and repairing PC's for networks, allthough starting to go out on site a little helping setting the networks up etc etc. So yep...another geek !! :afro:

so compared to a G60 ? how do they compare ? if he had enough for a VR6 and insurance i dont think he'd be looking for mx6 in first place ! lol I must admit though, between two of us we cant find and magazines, forums, web pages, performance parts or anything !! completely left alone, not like with the C !! this forum is sooo good, think im ust spoilt !!! lol !!

lol, but compare a 1.8 supercharged ( same price band ) to a 2.5-i 24 valve V6 ? i know it sounds better than it is, but still.....
