  1. Engine running. Once I saw them come on for stage 1. I didn't push it. Don't want all the coolant to evaporate again before I get her to a garage.
  2. Just brought for a short spin. City center traffic. Didn't get out of 3rd. Hit coolant temp of 100 and then I switched her off. Fans turned on about 93 or so. Oil temp was 102 when I turned her off. Both feed and return to rad are very hot. Can presume tstat is working okay then. Can hear aux pump working. Can't see any flow back to expansion though, but could be wrong. No one was there at the garage to answer questions about coolant etc.
  3. Garaged said they spent a long time getting the airlocks out. Maybe they didn't get all the air out. Will give that a go to. Think I'll try the other steps first though to check. Don't want to burn the **** out of myself for no reason :) Ta
  4. Not sure what the garage flushed it out with or how they did it. Being very presumptuous in hoping they know what they are doing. Read though the ultimate cooling guide so made up this plan of attack. When I get car back from garage, ask them how they flushed it, what coolant they put in it and what anti-freeze. Run Engine and listen for aux pump. Check if water is returning to expansion tank through small pipe. Rev engine to increase temp to check if fan comes on at stage 1 and maybe stage 2 dependent on results of stage 1. Let engine reduce in temp til fans turn off, turn ignition off and try to listen for electric pump. Think that should let me know everything? Except the main water pump. If the engine is reving higher, will the return flow rate to the expansion tank increase? Many thanks for all the help. Really most appreciated.
  5. Many thanks for explaining. Newbie but trying to learn fast
  6. That would then led to believe HG is the problem?
  7. Water pump did look a bit corroded. Don't have the car in front me but will check the return pipe after lunchtime. Guessing that if water is returning through small return pipe, then can conclude water pump is okay?
  8. Just rang garage there. Says the fans are coming on :(
  9. Sorry for not clarifying. Driving a vr6. Yeah its the coolant temp reaching 110c which naturally just boils. Had anti freeze put in when flushed the system (removed any airlock etc). Fans tested by just putting power to them when in garage. Also come on when car parked after driving. Sorry didn't get oil temp. Was concerned about getting car to safe place before dying. Thinking fans aren't coming on while driving?
  10. Once the temp gets to 110c (which happens after about 20mins drive), loads of steam starts coming from the expansion tank. Got the t-stat replaced as seemed like the issue. Didn't work though. Fans work perfectly. Had new rad a little while ago. No mayo in the cap. Sniffer test was "inconclusive". Had a pressurization test and was fine. Really hoping that its not the head gasket but seems like it might be. Anyone have any other ideas what to do before I fork out for a HG replacement?
  11. Worked out at just shy £120 delivered. Still have to fit them though

  13. Ta for the info guys. Will give ACS a call tomorrow to see about the t-stat and water pump. Once I get the car running perfectly again will pop down to Touch Ups to get a qoute. Seems like people are recommending Clyde Wraps also. No harm in getting a price from them too. Have any recommendations on any other work to do while I'm doing the t-stat? And/or the water pump?
  14. Been wanting a Corrado for a long time (irish insurance premiums are insane) but thankfully since moving to glasgow, have got my hands on one. After some advice from Goldie (thanks again), I decided to get a project rather than a "finished" car. Have the car I want in my head and wont be happy until I get it. Picked it up from Elgin (Yans old project) and had a great 4hr drive back. Was raining and cops all over the place so couldn't enjoy the drive to the max or get any photos of her at some amazing views. On the way back, did have to stop once as had a bit of steam coming from the bonnet. Coolant level had dropped a bit so topped it up and got back on the road. All was fine from then on. Decided today to go on a nice sunday drive spin. Stupidly I forgot that Top Gear was on at the Hydro in Glasgow and got stuck in traffic for ages. Think that was lucky really as loads of steam started to spew from under the bonnet just before i got on the motorway. Just before she cut out got into a car park. Naturally had loads of car nuts around looking at the car and all giving me advice on what the issue was. Decided best bet was just get the AA out in case needed a tow back home (free with the bank account anyway). AA showed up and after telling me it was an air lock, then that the head gasket was ****ed (heart stopped), came to decide that the t-stat is most likely the issue and that the water pump should be replaced. Got it home anyway and have it parked up until tomorrow when I'll get someone to look at it properly. Anyone have any recommendations of a good garage to bring it to? AA told me of Ashwood just off Maryhill just is very close to where the car is parked. Live in an apartment so have no place to do work on it myself. Only pics of car currently are at: http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?t=84084 Also if anyone knows of a good bodyshop as need a small bit of rust sorted before i get it either resprayed or vinyl wrap. Yan has kindly said he would supply photos of the work he did on the car before I bought it, so will upload them also when received. If anyone is looking for a copy of the Bentley factory manual, I have a pdf that is searchable (most I found the search doesnt work). Just send me a PM and I'll send you a link.
  15. Been working on a couple of industrial size projects for putting in solar panels and looking at life cycle assessment over 25 year period. The major thing your banking on is that FIT keeps paying out. If the government decides to change their plans, your stuffed. Also its not only the orientaiton thats important, but the inclination (pitch). Installed PV's that we east and west facing over south facing due to inclination and shading. Worked out significantly better for east west. To maximise your profits, try to match orientation with your usage pattern. Put large electricity consumption on when pv's have electricity production basically. All logical simple stuff really. Loads of software that will give you estimates of how much electricity a PV panel will product based on location, orientation and inclination but the accurate ones are not free. If you want a quick rough estimate, you can PM me and i'll do it in work tomorrow.
