2nd dibs on the exhaust please if Branty doesn't take it please

So I purchased a VR of a fellow on here, it turns out I bought it on the cusp off its engine demise! Pride, lac of funds and much chat between my friend and I, have resulted in me not showing face here for a while, but now I would like all advise possible please. The symptoms are a massive use of oil, progressing onto engine rattle at specific areas in the rev range.....I have not forced the issue and it has been parked up for the past few months. On doing a comp test all were in acceptable parameters, apart from cyl 5 or 6, can't remember , but it was down! So the head is coming off and I will remove the pistons! I am thinking about a recon head from TSR, but any info from yourselves would be gratefully received as to any other avenues. Also if I pull the pistons, and i hope the bores will be ok, what is the best route to take for piston and rings if the are req. all your advice will be greatly received, thanks very much Alan

hello all....just wanted to share an unpleasant experience with the above said people.....on my hunt for a door bar I phoned Amos motors whom then relieved me off £37 for the item. After 2 weeks off a no show on the part, I chased it up, asking as to its whereabouts on 4 occasions that I managed to speak to somebody. After many ignored calls and texts, having no joy and feeling that i was getting nowhere I asked for a refund, this then took another 4 weeks off texts and phone calls to eventually get my money returned...i don't like telling tales, but feel this forum is one off those good places with good people, and that was a very bad experience for me and I would like for people to try and avoid that...cheers Alan

There are people that have fitted 4 and 6 pot callipers on here, with the standard mc, and say that they worked, but just had more pedal travel! how would that be?
-
cheers for that....brake hoses have fitted and seem ok when turning lock to lock....will see how it goes with mc....i have read that pedal travel will be greater, so if that becomes a factor then we will change it...cheers for the heads up

if you find a B5 Passat with 288mm discs, the caliper and carrier will bolt onto the front off your corrado, and you still use mk3 VR6 discs and pads....result!
-
my friend is wanting brakes like mine, so he has got the above front caliper and carriers and we are wondering if they will work with mk4 discs, the passat discs will not work, as the offset and pcd are all wrong.....cheers Alan
